Consult
on September 26, 2008 1:22 pm
I had my consult on August 29, 2008.  All went well.  My weight was 315.9 on Dr. L's scale.  We discussed the surgery and after examination he asked me to loose 10 lbs.  He told me what to eat and what not to eat.  Tuna in water, chicken, turkey, vegetables, fruit, water, mineral water, green tea, no juice or pop, no salt, onkly vinegar and lemon to taste.  Other than our van breaking down on the way there everything else worked out.  We met up with others who just had their surgery and others like me going in for their consult.  I'm so glad to meet everyone especially because Barb and her husband drove up to the appt. and to check out where the hospital was and the Better health store.  They were definately our lifesaver as our van was being repaired.

Prior Approval with DR. L.
on July 2, 2008 10:59 am
I just received my consult approval from the Purolator Man.  WOW!!!!

I can't beleive that after all of the little hold ups and extra expenses to get doctors letters and test and waiting and more OHIP questions etc etc. that I have finally received the approval for my consult with Dr. L

Consider me already packed.  I have a consult date of Aug 29, 2008 at 12:00.  It is later than I would have liked however its great!!!!

I will need to rearrange my schedule for my business as I would think that the operation would be at the very end of September to the middle of October area.  Thank God it will not fall during the winter months.  I'm glad that my daughter will be in school at this time to keep her somewhat occupied and distracted.

Sooooo excited that my smile is larger than my face. and I keep breaking into my happy dance.

Anyhow more later.  I can barely concentrate.

Starting Process - April 18, 2008

Weight 310 lbs, Height 5'3", BMI 54.9

Morbidly Obese - yet beautiful & deserving of a great life!!!!!

I saw my doctor yesterday and he was also encouraging.  He originally referred me to Dr. Hagan for RNY and with research I felt DS to be much better for me.  So with internet info and diagrams in hand I asked that he sign my out-of-country that I had filled in already, he added a comment and signed, I attached my cover letter and list of co-morbidities which aren't much.  I faxed everything last night from Staples.  I will call Dr. L on Monday to let them know of my status thus far.  Hope to get everything done fast to have the summer to recoup.  I don't work July & Aug so if I can get surgery done early enough I won't have to take anytime off work.  I am also in the process of opening my own clinic for Natural Health Consulting and Homeopathy in October and don't want to run into issues.  I want to specialize in heart health and  Bariatrics.  Waiting to hear back.

Anxious and something in my
gut tells me to call and make sure OHIP received my fax.  I called and was told that they had some questions for my Dr.  The lady told me the asked if I suffer from depression/anxiety & heart problems and if they would effect surgery.  I think this is because there are a lot of heart issues and death in my family from Obesity although I haven't suffered yet.  There is also a history of Cancers.  They also asked for anything from other doctors, medications and about DS for me.  Other doctors, it has been years, medications were listed that I currently use which is Pantoloc for Acid Reflux and Meridia,  I have many years ago occasionally used Zoloft for depression when things built up, Tylenol when pain was unbearable and some sort of horsepill (overly large) that I don't remember the name of when my back went out.  Anyhow I'm not worried, glad they are asking and not just dening.  Of course however, my Dr is out of the office until the 29th.  Oh well.

May 6, 2008

Well, I had my doctor appt. today with regards to the questions sent to him by OHIP.  I went in prepared but it wasn't that bad.  They asked:
- Do I have heart problems that may be an issue
- Do I suffer from anxiety/depression, and if it would be a problem.  Also, documentation from other doctors.
- Any other reports from Ontario physicians
- Sleep apnea
- With the higher risks during surgery and afterwards with Vitamin deficiences and malabsortion issues, Ontario professionals only recommend such a surgery for super obese patients.  Why DS for me?
- plans for aftercare and how problems would be handled

Well, No current heart problems just a huge family history with massive attacks & death, I suffer from anxiety and some depression caused by weight. Not currently on medication, and haven't seen a pshyciatrist since a teen/young woman., No other reports from Ontario physicians, I am scheduling a sleep test (hope I can get in sooner than later),

My doctor is very supportive and is going to write a letter once I get the results of the sleep test.  He is going to do the best he can for me and wishes me luck.  I have a lot of faith in him as he has always been good to me and my family who are also patients for at least 30 years.  The hardest part is the wait. I will call to book a sleep test tommorrow and I hope it isn't a long wait.  My doctor wants to wait until we have the results so that we have more to offer in answer to OHIP questions.  I think this is wise.

Anyhow, thats all for now.  I'm glad they didn't ask for a name of a Bariatric Surgeon who would take care of me afterwards if problems arise.

May 13th, 2008

Had an appointment with my Chiropractor and told her that I needed documentation for OHIP and gave her some education on the surgeries and explained that I hope to give her some referrals once I start my Natural Health Consultation Business in October and with my OH Leadership  Support Meetings.  She was happy and we have formed a wonderful partnership.  She sent me for x-rays and I will meet back with her once we get the results.

May 14th, 2008

I had another doctors appointment as I was called in for more paperwork he received.  It was a 2nd notice from OHIP for the above requested information.  I informed him of the sleep study waiting list in Sudbury of 6 months and North Bay 3 months and we decided that perhaps it is best not to wait and send a reply to OHIP along with a letter by him.  Great!!!!  I also got him to give me the paper work to go ahead and get a chest x-ray, EKG, gallbladder ultrasound and bone density test.  I will a start keeping all my records and levels for future reference.  I am being totally proactive.  Book my appointments with MDS Labs

May 16th, 2008

I travelled to Barix (Ypsilanti) this weekend for their free consultation and to have a visit with my sister in Brantford on the way back.  (long weekend)  It was a mini vacation and I had all of my questions answered.  I would feel very confortable having my surgery here is it comes down to it.  But still holding out for DS I feel even more convinced that if possible DS is the best surgery for me because I am not an overeater and the malabsorption part is the biggest factor for me.  I want to be sure that I can eat all my veggies after without problems.

May 20th, 2008

Called Dr's office to confirm whether he sent in letter and info to OHIP.  His office is closed until Tuesday the 27th.  Oh Well... Gotta have faith.

May 22nd, 2008

Purolator truck arrived!!!!!!!

A letter (cc to doctor) that my file has been closed because the requested information has not been sent.  Should they receive the requested information my file will be reactivated.    WHAT!!!!!!  There goes my faith!!!!

Sudbury Sleep Center called while I was at work and will call back tommorrow.

May 23rd, 2008

Sleep Center called back to confirm my date of the 28th.  WHAT!!!!!!  "Didn't you receive our letter that tells you the procedures?"  NOOOOO?????  I was so excited.  The receptionist went through what the letter said.  I'm all set.  Maybe it is a good thing that I will resubmit to OHIP with more info.  I go back to my Chiropractor on Monday for the results of my x-ray and she will also be giving me a detailed letter for OHIP with regards to my nervous, spinal, muscle problems and the effect of my weight.

My Story

34 Years old, mother of 1 daughter 11, I had a restaurant f(Boops Diner) for 8 years and had no life.  Decided to close shop and persue my dream of natural health and helping others.

Currently I drive School Bus for income and to be off when my daughter is, something I could never do before.  I wrote my final exam for my Natural Health Consultants diploma and am 1/2 way through Homeopathy course to earn my diploma.  My plan is to open a business in my home to offer Natural Health consultations, homeopathy, natural health classes with cooking demonstrations, CHIP (coronary health improvement project) Program & Weight Loss Support Group.  I want to specialize in Bariatrics.  My goal is to open in October 2008.  Hope my surgery doesn't fall at a bad time.  Surgery in #1 in needing to get done.

I have a wonderful partner who is very supportive and is great with my daughter.  He is more of a father to her than she has ever known.  I am not yet divorced but have been separated for 7 years.  It is so expensive on my little income and when I get close to the required funds something happens.  Now it is the cost of going for the surgery (travel, accomodations, supplements, etc.)  I'm sure everything will work out in the end, I do know that if I am not healthy there will be no tommorrow to worry about so one step at a time.

I am also very glad to have been introduced to this website by Wendy the WLS Group Leader for Val Caron.  These are friendships I really need and seems to be the only way to get most answers because I have discovered that there is not a lot of information available to the public.

Love Everyone
