Surgeon Testimonial

Malcolm Robinson, M.D.
I am not very impressed with Dr. Robinson, but would have had to wait months for a new doctor. I feel his bed side manner leaves much to be desired. His visits are very quick and feel impersonal. I did not like the Brigham at all, it seemed dirty and smelly. The nurses did not seem very attentive. I wish I had done more research on a better program. I wish I had chosen a woman.

Hi, I am a 42 year old mother of 3 with the greatest husband anyone could ever ask for. I am currently a homemaker, previously a nurse. I never had a weight problem untill I had children and then all down hill from there. I have several weight related health issues which finally prompted me to do something about it. Funny thing is, I NEVER CONSIDERED SURGERY! I searched the Brigham Hospital for a "weight loss program" and called to make an appt. thinking it was nutrition, support, etc guided by a doctor. I was sent to the information seminar and was blown away, more caught off guard than anything. It was a lot to take in so I went home and thought about it all night and attended my first nutrition group the next night. This just sort of fell into my lap I guess. I did not get a favorable response from some people, including hubby when I announced my idea, but he soon supported me in my decision and I have told no one else in my family, YET!

Finally feeling better
on September 10, 2010 11:57 pm
Well after 3 and 1/2 months I am finally feeling better. I had an ulcer that was not very pleasant!! But now I am tolerating foods much better. I even tolerated a protein shake yesterday! I have to say the first three months just suck!! I am down now 86 lbs and actually bought a size 14 for the first time in like 12 years!! I was so excited. My weight loss has definitely started to slow. My goal now is to buy a size 12! I don't get enough exercise so that is also my goal. I can't walk for long distances due to knee and ankle pain so I am going to try some floor exercises and see if I can do the elliptical. I bought the bender ball but still in box. LOL Maybe it's time to break it out!!

Time spent in hell
on June 12, 2010 12:39 am
Well I had my surgery May 12th, 2010. I would have to say it was the most horrible time ever!! The first day in the hospital was great, then came day 2, not so great. Could not tolerate protein shakes, nausea, diarhea, pure misery. I was only home for 4 days before being readmitted for severe nausea, vomiting, diarhea, and I felt like death. turns out I can not tolerate milk based shakes. I was on a liquid diet for 8 days in the hospital and all I did was ball my eyes out. I kept thinking, "oh my god, what have I done." While in the hospital I remembered someone telling me about this web site and what a god send you all were. Here I was thinking I was having every complication in the book and you guys gave me so much info and support, it was almost bearable. So I skipped the protein shake stage and was sent home on soft foods. Food is NOT my friend. I have been home from hospital and trying to eat for 18 days now. Presently I have constant nausea, worstened by eating. I can't sleep. I am unable to take my regular medications, which of course would help me sleep, but I HAVE FINALLY STOPPED CRYING!!!! YAY! I have made some friends on here who have helped me tremendously and I don't know what I would of done without them. I still haven't told anyone about my surgery, they all think I had a hiatal hernia repair which is why I am feeling so sick, I really do have a hiatal hernia, lol. I think when I feel better and start losing noticible weight I will gradually let them in on it.  Surprisingly, a lot of people still see this surgery as a drastic life threatening procedure, although the lap band is for some reason more acceptable.
