RECOVERY GOING WELL...mostly.

Oct 09, 2013

First week of recovery went great.  Pain...yes.   Nausea...yes.   But that was to be expected.   At my one week follow up I had lost 16lbs.   So no complaints.   Second week...well   the problems there were my own fault.   This is a little T.M.I., so beware.

I have always had bowel issues.  I remember as a kid ending up in the ER because of horrible stomach pain.   Parents thought I was having appendicitis.  But then the doc came in with the X-Rays and showed my dad that I was "full of Sh*t" , quite literally.   I guess I had just learned to live with it.   When I had my gall bladder out after my son was born, those bowel issues seemed few and far between.   WELL.........GUESS WHAT..... "THEY'RRRRRRRRE BAAAAAACK!"

Knowing that it is common to go a couple days without a bowel movement after surgery I wasn't worried when the second week things "stopped up".   But then a week went by and things had gotten bad.   Finally, I spoke to a partner surgon (Dr. Minkin) at 6am on a Saturday( most awake sounding doctor I have ever heard that early in the morning, might I add).   Well he laid out the plan and it worked.    Magnesium Citrate (whole bottle).   I let it go flat first (because we aren't supposed to have carbonation) and then drank it slowly till I got it all down.   CHerry flavor tasted like cherry Jolly Ranchers to start....but after while it got pretty nasty tasting.   It didn't work that day so when I callled the following day as directed, (Once again sounding very awake), he told me to do a double dose of miralax and a suppository.    THAT DID IT.

Now 4 days later things are so much better.   I take regular dose Mirlax in the morning and Benefiber in the afternoon.   THings are all finally NORMAL  :)   YippEE !!!   Best Birthday Present ever!

19 DAYS AFTER SURGERY and 26 LBS. DOWN.    One of the best decisions I have ever made!
