Surgeon Testimonial

Matthew Christopherson M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Christopherson is an awesome surgeon and is very supportive during you journey from deciding to move forward with weight loss surgery to the time that you actually have it done. He is also very much into the follow up aspect and wants you to continue to follow up with him in the years to come. His staff is wonderful to work with and very helpful. I would recommend him 100%.

6 month surgiversary!!!
on November 19, 2009 2:20 pm
I went in Tuesday for my 6 month post op and am sooo excited with the results!!  I am down to 166 lbs, have lost 72% of my excess body weight and 51% of that is pure fat!!  My surgeon is super impressed, he told me that I am further now than what he expected me to be a 1 year out, in fact I am further now than he would expect a RNY patient to be at one year.....Isn't that exciting....

I have literally worked my butt off, and it shows and I have never been happier, I am soooo glad that I made the decision to do this for myself.....I am a self pay and I still feel guilty at times for spending the money on this, but my awesome husband tells me it was an investment in his future as well.

My kids are gitty with excitement as well, they keep saying mom you are so little.....it makes me proud....and I am excited that I will be here for many years to come.

My comorbidities are gone....no more diabetes, no more hypertension, no more hypercholestrerolemia and the joint pain is gone as well.

If you are questioning having this surgery DONT....do it and get on with your life, it is worth it.

Thanks for everyones support, the journey has been amazing....and i am not done yet.

2 week post op!!
on June 2, 2009 1:04 pm
I just got home from my 2 week post op visit with my surgeon and dietician.....I LOST 25.5 LBS!!!  whoo hoo!!  The surgeon says everything looks great and I don't need to see him for 3 months.  The dietician said I am a little short on my protein, to bump it up a bit, but I HATE IT....any suggestions on how to make this go down easier??  Thanks, Becky

Home from the hospital!!
on May 20, 2009 9:23 am
Had the sleeve done on the 18th, came home last night about 7 pm.  Feeling pretty good after getting a great nights sleep in my own bed!!  tummy a little bit sore, still using pain med to keep it under control.  Also it seems to burn a little  bit when i drink anything, I am thinking that is still the gas from surgery, or i am swallowing gas when i drink, i do find that smaller sips helps.....anyone care to comment on whether they had this same sensation....

Thanks so much!!  Becky

My Story

Hi, my name is Becky and I am 46 years old.  I have been struggling with weight since the birth of my first child, and now have comorbidities of diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and osteoarthritis.  I have been looking into having surgery for over 2 years, but my insurance does not cover the costs.  After extensive discussion with my physician husband we decided this was something that I needed to do for me so that I could be around for our three daughters graduations, weddings, and future grandchildren.  I got in contact with Dr. Christopherson from Davenport and started the process.  Even though I was self pay I  had to go through all the hoops that I would have if the insurance company would have been paying for it, the counselling, the dietician, and psychiatrist, lab work, etc.  I was originally interested in the Lap Band, I was not really interested in having my entire stomach removed.....when I returned after the first of the year he discussed with me the option of verticle sleeve gastrectomy.  He just started doing them and thought that this would be a great option for me.  After much discussion and thought I decided to go with the sleeve and had it performed on May 18th, 2009.  I am 5 days out from surgery at this time and feeling awesome, already thinking this is the best decision for ME that I have made in a very long time.  I have a daughter getting married on July 4th and am anxious to see how much weight I will loose before that time.
