How will you deal with....?

I'm still 4+ weeks out from surgery and I keep getting that question.  How will you deal with a cruise when they push food & drinks on you?  How will you deal with Sunday dinners?  How will you deal with not being able to drink for a year?  How will you deal with not being able to eat much?

I almost bit my husband's head off tonight by saying "I'll deal with it because I have to".  Instead, I took a deep breath and told him if there was anything that would make it difficult for me, that was it.  I will deal with it the way anyone is forced to deal with anything - it's what you do.  I told him if we go on a vacation where they push alcohol on guests, I'll lie and tell them I'm an alcoholic.

I know someone who in order to keep from overeating, keeps an empty Tupperware container in her purse and as soon as the food is served, she scoops at least half of it in the container and puts it back in her purse, out of sight, out of mind.  That keeps her from nibbling and it also keeps the staff from thinking she didn't like the food.  I can try that strategy.  We plan to share meals anyway, which isn't uncommon.

I just wonder how others deal with it after surgery?
