Surgeon Testimonial

Kai Nishi
Dr. Nishi is a very kind surgeon. He cares about the patient pre-op and post-op. I have not had any negative experiences with him. I would reccomend him to anyone wanting WLS. His office staff is very informative and very patient oriented. They have been very helpful in my weightloss journey. I have not had any negative experiences with the staff at Cedars Sinai.
I was well informed of the risks and possible complications of the surgery, Dr. Nishi informed me. I would rate Dr. Nishi a 10 out of a scale of 1 to 10.
I think that surgical competence and bedside manner are both important. A doctor should demonstrate competence in both aspects when dealing with any patient. Dr. Nishi and his team has both.

My name is Faye and I guess I have been overweight most of my adult life. I had no idea about WLS until I started working as a surgical nurse. I have done hundreds of bands and RNY's...but never imaginged that I would have it done on myself. I like OH because the support is great. My WL journey has just begun...

5 months down
on November 23, 2008 5:38 pm
I got my 3rd fill on Tuesday Nov. 18.  I have 5.5 ccs in my 10cc band. I can't really eat much of anything. I am really eating less than half a cup of food at a time. I am hoping it gets better in the following weeks. I am down 44lbs, which is great, I think. I still love my band. Tomorrow's my birthday and I am having some cake...lol.

2 Month bandaversary!
on August 16, 2008 5:59 pm
So, I survived 2 months being banded. It's hard at times, but I am happy with my decision. I notice that I don't eat as much as I used to. I listen to my body when I am full. I get a "soft stop", which is a hiccup. If I eat past that I am bound to slime and then have a bad pain in my chest...so I don't. I see food in a different light now. I am used to my "baby" sized portions. Before I used to think I would starve looking at the small food on my plate. So;

1. I can live peacefully with the band
2. The band will let me know if I'm over doing it
3. The less deprived I feel the more I'm willing to try
4. Food is NOT the enemy
5. The band is my tool
6. I am losing weight
7. This is not a race, it took me a time to gain, it will take me time to lose

I survived my first fill!
on July 29, 2008 7:07 pm
I now have 2.5 ccs in my 10 cc band. The proceedure was painless..except for the tiny poke of lidocaine...I didn't even feel the needle go into my tummy or the port. Mines was done under fluoro and I got to see my pouch, which is smaller than I thought, and my band. My doc put 4ccs in first, but the barium wouldn't go down, so he took a little out. I am sad that I will be on liquids until Thursday, but I hope to have more restriction. I had restriction before the fill, so I hope I have more. I am so happy about this journey. Let the real weightloss begin! My next fill is Sept. 9.

Will work for food...better yet...will work for restriction!
on July 18, 2008 12:08 pm
Um...isn't it funny how things work out? I was all in a huff wanting to be on solid food and eat up a storm...well, as big of a storm the band will allow..lol...then I get to solid food...and boy is it good. But wait....I can't even eat that much. (which is the BIGGEST blessing of the band) I am soooo happy I have restriction. Last night I made a turkey burger with cheese and was only able to eat half! That has been this whole week...I can't eat that much. I eat and then get that warning sign to stop..that fullness in my chest...then I am full for about four hours before I get hungry again. I am really happy because it helps me make better choices on what I am going to eat...seeing as how I don't have a lot of room for much. I just can't wait until I have my first fill to see what happens.

My Story

My name is Faye. I guess I have the same story as everyone else. I have been overweight most of my life. I don't know what is really wrong with me...I love food. Sweets, candies, cookies, cakes...you name it. I've devoured it. Well, as of 2007 I wanted to change all of that. I started work at a very nice Beverly Hills hospital and my life changed..for the better.

I found out about WLS through my job. I am a surgical nurse and do these all of the time. I never really thought that I would put myself through a surgery just to lose weight. My thoughts really changed throughout the course of that year. I don't think that being banded is the "easy way out". It is how I can get myself healthy route.By no means do I look down on others who have had any help reaching their goals in weight loss.

My surgery date was changed three times. It was sad news to me, but everything happens for a reason. I was finally banded on Monday, June 16, 2008. So far I am ok, Thank God. I am happy to be starting my WL journey.
