I am 52 years old and was diagnosed with bi-lateral breast cancer in June of 2007. I discovered that it is a myth that most chemo patients loose weight and find myself almost 40 lbs heavier after finishing up all the treatments to get rid of the cancer. Now I find my doctors telling me that I must loose that weight and more before I can get back to a healthier lifestyle. Finding out I had cancer and having to go through the treatment for it has been a huge life changing experience. One of the hardest to adjust to was how very hard it is to start in exercising again and how tired I get. Like beating the cancer I am determined to also get myself back in shape again and healthy. I would like to get in contact with any other people that have gone through WLS after going thru cancer treatments as well. At this point I haven't had the initial interview with my surgeon but have discussed this decision with my other doctors and they are all in agreement that it is a good route for me at this time.  My cardiologist is particularly happy to hear that I am considering WLS due to the fact that my congestive heart failure (diastolic dysfunction) would be helped dramatically if I were to loose the extra lbs of fat that are pushing on my heart.

I have two granddaughters that I enjoy being with as much as I can. I enjoy making doll clothes and bought them both American Girl dolls for their birthday this last year (both were born on July 12, 3 years and 9 minutes apart). I want to do all I can to get back in shape so that I can run and play with them for many years to come.
