3 days out - feeling pretty good

Aug 01, 2009

Went in for my band over bypass on Weds, July 29th.  Since I was a revision the doctor kept me overnight as a precaution.  The pain from this surgery is a lot less than the pain from the original bypass.  The incisions (5) are all approx 1/2 inch with the exception of one which is about 1 1/2 inches (this is the only one really causing any pain).  I am still on liquids for the most part, pretty much living on water, tea, yogurt (low-fat refrigerated and non-fat frozen).  As of this morning I was down from 238 (day of surgery weight at the hospital) to 229.

When I had my original bypass I did things backwards.  Instead of celebrating the weight I was losing I kept focusing on my old weight and how I never wanted to look like that again.  I never bought a goal outfit instead I kept an old pair of fat pants so I wouldn't ever fit in them again.  This time I'm turning my thinking around.  I bought the most adorable Calvin Klein summer dress that was on clearance at Macys, originally 84.99 - marked down to 20.99!  So that is my goal - I have something to work towards this time - I will be wearing that dress next summer!

Surgery date just around the corner...

Jul 24, 2009

Well I am scheduled to have my revision surgery on Weds., July 29th at Orange Coast Memorial Hosp.  I will be getting a band over my original bypass.  I have completed all my pre-op testing and jumped through all the required hoops - now I just wait.  I originally had gastric bypass in August of 2002 and got down to a weight of 185.  Seven years later I am at 235  (factor in one baby 3 years ago).  Overall I don't feel that I've done too bad.  My problem is I never feel full and this is due to the bottom opening on my pouch being stretched out.  I was told my insurance company on approves about 4% of the revisions and I was approved.  I feel like I am being given a second chance and I am very grateful.  It's a little scarier this time around because I know what to expect as far as the eating afterwards.

I have to be on a clear liquid diet all day Tuesday and then Wednesday morning it's off to the hospital.  If everything goes as expected I will be home Wednesday night.  I have 3 weeks off of work so that will give me time to get used to the eating before I have to be in any type of public eating situation.

Will update after my surgery.
