08/05/04 I am attending a seminar today!!! Although I have been researching it for over a year, I have finally realized, it is going to be the only way.
09/16/04 Consult with surgeon, Dr. C. Daniel Smith at Emory. The consult went fine, I liked Dr. Smith, he seems genuine about wanting to help me. Since I have BCBS of GA PPO I have some hoops to jump through before submitting the paperwork for approval.
09/29/04 Today I had a nutrition consult with a dietician at Emory, which is required by my insurance. She recommends I start a 1200 calorie diet, stop all caffeine and carbonated beverages BEFORE surgery, also take a multi-vitamin and calcium supplement. I think the Diet Cokes may be the hardest thing, we will see!
10/01/04 Today I had my psychological consultation with Dr. Richard Schwartz, everything went fine. I did have to take a personality test that took almost 2 hours! He will send the results to my surgeon within 2 weeks.
10/21/04 All of my packet has now gone to the surgeons office for them to submit to BCBS/GA for precertification. I dont really know how long it takes for them to submit the paperwork. I hope it goes fast and I can get approval the first time!!! I would really love to have the surgery over Christmas break, since I am employed full time and am also a full time student. But no one seems to be in a hurry, but me!!! Everyone say a little prayer for me to get my surgery date. Thank you!
12/30/04 Havent been keeping this updated very well. My insurance packet was received by BCBS on 11/03/04 and they approved the surgery as of 11/30/04, but didnt have in their system until 12/08/04. So now I have to have all the testing done. My EGD is scheduled for 01/03/05 and the stress test and others are scheduled for 01/05/05, so I am well on my way! I am excited and nervous all at the same time. Hopefull I can have surgery scheduled for early February. I want to be on the losing side!!!
01/27/05 I HAVE A DATE!!!! They called me today, my surgery is scheduled for February 16th at Emory. I am excited and scared all at the same time, but I must say, more excited than scared. I am ready to take a giant step to improving my health! Wish me well.
02/13/05 Tomorrow is my pre-op appt at Emory and my surgery is on 02/16/05. I only have a couple of days until surgery. I am working on 02/14 and 02/15 and I am in school and going to class on 02/14. So I will be busy until the day of the surgery, which is good! I cant wait to be on the losing side. I havent been a normal weight since about 3rd grade. I have tried many things over the years, to no avail. This surgery is going to save my life and give me many years of better health and ability to enjoy life :-)
02/20/05 I MADE IT TO THE LOSING SIDE!!! My surgery went very well, no complications and so far I am tolerating liquids fine. Just a little bit and my pouch is full. So now the journey begins...
03/15/05 One month post op and down 28lbs so far!!! No complications, no problems with food or liquids. I plan to start my exercise program at Curves now that I have received clearance from the doctor. Will keep you posted.
04/19/05 Had my two month post op appt today and I am down 43lbs!!! I got my first B12 shot and labs drawn. I feel pretty good, I still dont have all the energy I think I should. I have just joined the gym where my husband is a member, hopefully this will inspire me to go more often!
05/10/05 I am almost 3 months post op now and have lost 53lbs!!!! I went to Kentucky for the Derby this weekend and to see my best friend. I have an updated picture of me and my hubby at the Derby in my lovely hat!
07/15/05 I am 5 months out now and have lost 78lbs!! I just got back from Sweden and it was alot easier to fit in the airplane seats weighing less and no extension belt needed! yippeee The weather was fabulous there and I ate alot of good fish and shrimp. My husband is taking montly photos of me, so he will take the 5 month pic tomorrow when I get dressed up for Tonya and James' wedding! I really wanted to lose 100lbs by 6 months out, but it doesnt look like I will make it. Oh well I am still losing so I cant complain :)
