7-16-2010 5 years since weight loss surgery

Jul 16, 2010

Hi everyone,  I had my 5 year check up with my surgeon, Dr. Kim today.  It was a great checkup.  I actually lost 2 lbs. since last year.  I've been able to maintain an average weight loss of approx. 80 lbs.  I have to behave myself and try to stick to the good habits of eating primarily protein, minimal carbohydrates and walking everyday, or it will creep up on me.  My previous checkups had me gaining about 5 lbs. each year.  He x-rayed my pouch and it looks the same as it did after my surgery, so I have not streached it too much.  It is neat to be able to see this for myself on the monitor.  I am one of the fortunate ones that still feels nauseous if I eat more than a few bites of anything with real sugar, so this keeps me in check too.

It's been 2 yrs. on 7/13/2007 since I had my surgery and have maintained a weight loss of about 80 lbs.  It has made me a much healthier person.  I was able to stop all prescription meds except harmone replacement for the past two years.  This past week I did have to start taking blood pressure meds again, but I was told that once you've ever had to take b.p. meds, that you would probably have to for life.  It is better controlled now than it ever was before my surgery.  I still feel a lot better since my weight loss and would do it all over again in a heart beat.  The surgery didn't fix all of my health problems but it did make all of them better, if it didn't elliminate the problem.  For me, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.  I will be happy to answer any emails from anyone with questions about my experiences with the weight loss surgery if you want to click the link to email me.  This site helped me a lot when I was researching to make my decision.
