I have been the"fat one" for as long as I can remember.  When I was a child I remember the embarassment and stigma of having to shop in the Chubby section of the department stores and not being able to wear hand me downs like the rest of my brothers and sister.  Fast forward 40+ years and I am still shopping in the same chubby section, dispite loosing over 400 pounds in my lifetime.  I have always been very active backpacking for years and now scuba diving for even more years, but have never been able to keep the weight off.  It just became worse after I injured a knee and my husband injured his back and we became inactive.  It took a toll on me.  I had always wanted to be able to do it on my own, but have now come to the realization that I need the help of this surgery.  I have researched this for 2 years now and have decided that the best for me will be the RNY.  I started in late October of 2009 by applying to my insurance for coverage.  I met their goal of loosing 5% of my weight in 6 months (I did it in 4.5) and got my "golden ticket" to see a surgeon.  After jumping through all the hoops my date for surgery is set for 7/27/10.  I started at 313 and a BMI of 52.  Today, 3 weeks before surgery, I am at 284 and a BMI of 47.3.
To my husband:  I love you Babe, you are my inspiration.
