Baby steps

Apr 08, 2011

I been home now for few days, just 5 days out my surgery, first nite home was literally HELL for me. Between nausea and this horrible restlessness from medication and trembling I just didnt see an end to it. I felt like I was walking thru the valley of death. My mother was wonderfully patient. The next day dr changed my nausea med and it helped eventually with that discomfort but the anxiety and jitters lasted longer at least another 12hrs but eventually they left me and things just started getting into a normal zone. Everyday is been getting better, I keep optimistic. My family is awesome and so are my supporters, my friends. I've lost 10lbs since surgery so is working. I try to focus on the lil things like the sun beaming bright today, I think i'll take a short walk later on and get some sun light, before I know it  I will be fine. :)

It all started 5 months ago...

I went to see my dr. for a diabetes check up when I seen my actual weight (291lbs) it was a reality slap so I decided to finally ask my dr. for help. She previously mentioned wls but I never thought that would be for me until now. I knew I needed help and I could no longer do it on my own. She referred me to dr. Caruana (surgeon) they informed me of what the process was for this surgery and I have to say they were very organized. So I completed my online orientation and test. Then I scheduled my appt with the psychologist which consisted of completing a 567'? questioneer and a session with the psychologist. Once that was completed I scheduled an appt with the nutritionist this was a part webinar and part phone interview. I found this very educational and the phone interview gave way to answer a lot of my questions. By this point I was finishing up my weight loss history to then submit to my pcp so a recommendation could be made to my surgeon's office.  I submitted all that paperwork, this was the longest part of the process waiting for my pcp to complete her process but once I got word it was sent, not even a week went by when I got a call from the surgeon's office, I got my 1st appt.  There I receive plenty more information in regards to what remained of the process, I went over more of my medical history and got to speak to the surgeon he thought I was a good candidate. After this I had some lab work done and the authorization for surgery was requested to my insurance. Within 2 weeks I got a call from insurance company authorizing procedure and shortly after that the surgeon's office called to schedule the surgery and other important appts. 4/4/11 is my surgery date and I've been thru every emotion in the book. I've also started my liver reduction diet and so far i've lost 11lbs, so far this journey has been pretty amazing and I am eager to continue and do my part to give myself a 2nd chance in life. I am most thankful for my daughter and my parents' support it is so important to have support in this journey. With less than 1 week to go, I put myself in God's hands and I cherish each day that goes by... I just can't wait! :)
