I just picked my sister up at the train station and she really surprised me. This is the sister that was totally against my surgery and didn't even want to hear anything about it. I love her and respect that she doesn't agree and so we agreed to disagree. Well, when she was in Montreal last week, she decided that although she still doesn't agree with my having surgery, she will do whatever she can to support me - including coming with me and our other sister to Utica. I was totally surprised and told her that I appreciate her offer, but I really didn't want her to do anything against her conscience. She's insisting on coming now and won't take no for an answer. Boy was I surprised! My sisters and I are very close - best friends - and before they were married, we lived together and went on holidays together. I wonder if she thinks our other sister and I going to have a good time without her!!! LOL No, she really wants to be there and help and any way that she can. I feel very grateful for her love and concern. Lucky me to have such wonderful sisters!

I went and had my physical today in preparation for the surgery. I was a little nervous getting the ECG/EKG done. She took it 3 times - there was something that wasn't normal on there. All 3 times, we got the same reading. She checked with the DR and he said it was OK and not anything that would prevent surgery. So, I'm all ready. I will follow-up next week to ensure that copies of the medical and blood work that I had done last week have all been received. I don't want to leave anything to the last minute and find out that something important is missing. I have my perscription for meds to be taken after the surgery and I'll get that filled next week. Everything seems to be following into place. I think I'm ready for this - we'll see over the next 3 weeks how my emotions hang in.

Things seem to be happing quickly now. I really enjoyed attending Dr. Graber's seminar this week. It was a shame the way one woman was treated because she had to bring her young child, who naturally make some noise. Thank goodness she wasn't screaming and crying, but was vocal. I would have appreciated it more if she had sat at the back, but she did try very hard to contro lthe youngster. Some people can be so rude - asking her to leave. She didn't need to leave! Anyhow - I hope it doesn't put her off from persuing WLS.

I was able to schedule a physical with my GP for next week. I went yesterday to get my blookwork done at the Civic - as requested by Dr. Dent. I've got all my reservations made and just have to wait it out now. I hope that I don't get the 2 week jitters that some have. I'm afraid that I'll cancel and then be sorry later. I really need to do this. I feel like my days are numbered if I don't!

I got a new surgery date and I'm thrilled. August 13 (not a Friday).  I will soon be joining the Looser's Club!  I can't wait!!!

I called Dr. Graber's office to give them my new cell number and asked where I was on the cancellation list.  As it turned out, they had just received a couple of cancellation this morning and I have a date only 4 weeks away.  This give me just enough time to get my physical and blood work completed.  I was really hoping to have this surgery done in August - well, July if I could, but that would be really pushing it!

I've made an appointment with my GP for another physical next week.  I just had one in May, but I need another within 30 days of surgery.  I'll go this week to get the blood work done.  I've booked the hotel and have my sister all ready to go with me.

Great timing - Dr. Graber is coming to Ottawa today for an information session and I was planning on going.  I'm looking forward to that even more now!

Well, I finally got a date today.  September 5, 2008.  It seems so long away!  I am #2 on the cancellation list, so hopefully, I'll get a sooner date.  If not, well, that will be the date of start of my new life.  Not a bad date.  At least it is before the snow starts, so I have one less thing to worry about.  The strangest thing is that I'm very calm about it all.  I thought I'd be nervous or excited.  I'm not - just very calm and accepting.  Maybe that will change as the date gets closer.

I just got a call from Dr. Dent's office and my OHIP has been approved.  YEH!!!    I called Dr. Graber's office so get a surgery date, but I have to wait for Lisa to call me back.  I didn't meet Lisa, who usually looks after Dr. Graber's patiences on the 16th - instead, I met with Michelle.  I'm so anxious to get my date!!!  When I get that, I'll have to start nagging them for a cancellation    This week is looking to be a good one.  I'm feeling better today - not as depressed.  Maybe the new meds are starting to work!  It has been really hard getting through the change in meds for depression over the last couple of weeks.  I hope this is a turn for the best.  We finally move into our new house this Friday (been waiting since the end of March).  I'll even khave AC in by the weekend, so if it turns really hot again, I'll be OK.  Having problem with hot flashes - on top of everything else!    My niece, Gaby, has won another tennis match today in Rohamton - a step closer to Whimbleton Jr. next week.  Lots of great stuff happening!

I just read a post on RNY site and it made me stop and think about the reasons why I'm having this surgery.  Following is my list of what I can't do today because of my weight:

- fit comfortabily in theatre seats
- tie shoe laces
- get up off the floor without hanging onto something
- fit in a regular bathtub
- scratch the back of my leg when itchy
- sit on lawn furniture (unless it's made of strong wood)
- sit in a booth at the restaurant
- sit in a regular chair with arms
- walk more than 10 minutes having to stop to rest my back
- join friends and colleagues in any activities that require any physical activity
- fit in airplane seats comfortabily
- connect airplane seatbelts without extention
- sit by the emergency exit on planes
- do much housework without having to take a nap
- plant a garden
- shovel snow off the driveway/walkway
- cross my legs
- sit/stand on one side of a small boat - must always stay in the middle
- stand in line for more than 5 minutes

These are just a few of the very basis things that I find I cannot do today because of my weight.  One of my greatest fears is that I will die and not be able to fit in a coffin!

I met with Dr. Graber yesterday and have decided to move forward with RNY surgery as quickly as possible.  He and all his staff were wonderful to deal with and I'm looking forward to my next visit, which will be for surgery!

I'm still waiting to hear back fro OHIP about approval, but I don't think it will be a problem - or at least according to Dr. Dent.  I asked that my sleep study results from 2 years ago be sent to both GP and Dr. Dent.  As soon as I get a surgery date, I'll have a copy of all of the test results sent to Dr. Graber.

Family are still not supporting me in this decision.  They think I should be able to go on another diet and with the changes in my thinking (not using food as an emotional crutch) that I shouldn't need surgery to help me.  They think I can do this on my own - but I'm not sure, based on previous history, that that's possible.  I am committed to making the life style changes, I just don't think I can do it successfully on my own.  They don't understand that and I can't seem to get through to them.  Oh well, I need to do this for me - not them!

I didn't expect to be updating again so soon, but I just checked in with Dr. Graber's office and they have a cancellation for Monday, June 16th.  Of course I said I'd take it.  This is so much better than July 22.  Maybe I'll be able to have my surgery before the end of the summer instead of fall!!!  I'm so excited!  I've decided that it might be best to drive down Sunday, since my appointment is at 10 a.m.  I don't want to run into any problems with construction or delayed boarder crossing.

Is this really going to happen for me???

Just came back from meeting with Dr. Dent.  He has filled in the OHIP papers for me and is sending them in (today hopefully).  Next step is to get all the tests done.  My GP has already started some of this as part of my annual physical.  I go back to see Dr. Dent on July 7 to see what else I need.  I'll call my GP's office this afternoon to ask that they fax over my test results a.s.a.p. to Dr. Dent.  So it all starts!
