My journey, and slight relapse

Feb 13, 2016

My weight loss goal began in 2004 when I reached 300+ pounds.  I weighed over 265 for 19 years and decided that my health would not make it much longer.  All my lab test were out of control.  My diabetes was loosing the battle and affecting my kidneys.  So, I began my weight loss journey with Kaiser Richmond, Dr. Judith Park's office in Feb 2005.  By August 24, 2005, I had a Roux-N-Y Gastric Bypass.  I had been on a liquid diet off and on for 4 months prior to surgery and got down to 233, however I knew I would never stay there as I had done this over and over again.  Nine months after surgery I was 175 lbs.  My goal was 155, but I didn't reach it, however, was so pleased with what I had achieved with the surgery.

My body felt better, my mind was better, I believed in myself again.  My spirit was lifted.  I was happy.

In 2006, my mother passed away suddenly and it was my total devastation.  Depression sat in badly. I began grazing and eating whatever I could.  Slowly I got back up to 205 lbs.  This made my loss, grief and depression even worse.  I went back to my therapist (I believe now that mental health, therapy, is an absolute necessity for anyone on this journey).  Working hard and learning to love myself again, now, 10 years since my mother passed, I've been able to begin to loose wieght again.  Back down some, to 189 today, I hope to be back to, at least, 175, by my 10 year Post Op date of August 24, 2016.

I have incurred some medical problems that I'd like to share in my next blog.  Don't miss it.
