UGH!!!!

Mar 18, 2007

I had my surgery on 3/13 and nothing is going the way I expected. I have thrown up about 7 times and have been back to the hospital twice. My last vomiting episode left a horrible taste in my mouth and my urine has the same weird smell. I also ran a fever last night (99.6 to 101.6 under the armpit). My doctor is out of town and his on call person said maybe this is just normal for me. (Well, not the fever - he does not know about that.) I will call my doc when he gets back on Monday and see what the deal is. I have not been able to eat my protein shakes/vitamins. I tried on Friday, and then put myself back on clear liquids until I can talk to my doctor.

The day after surgery I had lots of clotting blood from bowels.  The doctor told me that a blood vessel may have gotten snipped during surgery.  I was "scoped' and no active bleeding was found.

The vomiting and gross smell is getting to be too much.  I was given an upper GI during one of my subsequent hospital visits and everything looked good.  Why, then, do I feel so lousy?  I will just keep hoping for the best.   On the bright side, I have lost 12 pounds.

The big day is coming!

Mar 12, 2007

Well, tomorrow is my big day.  It seems like I have been waiting forever, but in reality, it has been about 1 1/2 months.  My surgery is at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow and I cannot wait.

Getting Closer

Feb 14, 2007

Today I attended the informational meeting at the hospital.  I also made an appointment to meet with the nutritionist.  Everything is happening fast, but not fast enough.  Like most other posts I have read, I wish my surgery was tomorrow!

I'M APPROVED

Feb 08, 2007

2/8/07
I called UHC today and they told me I was approved!!!!!  I don't have anything in writing yet (that's my pessimistic side coming out), but I'm just going to enjoy the moment anyway! I'm set for surgery on March 13, 2007.

The Beginning

Feb 03, 2007

On January 31, 2007, I had my consultation with Dr Oakley.  I liked him very much and felt very comfortable around him.  He approved me for surgery.  I also met with Jennifer at Dr. Oakley's Office.  She is in charge of the insurance.  She told me that United Health Care has, in the last 6 months, been requiring a 5 year weight history.  This was disappointing news because my BMI has not been over 40 for the last five years.  Jennifer did tell me that my UHC plan is different than others she has worked with (mine is through the railroad).  Jennifer is very nice and seemed extremely knowledgable, and I trust she will do all she can.  Anyway, the information was submitted on Thurdsay (2-1-07) to the insurance.  Now I just have to wait . . .
