I'm 55 and live in eastern Ontario, Canada. Was a bit chubby as a kid and called "fat" but when I look at pictures, I was hardly fat. The picture in my profile is when I was 20 and working with Standardbred race horses. I slowly gained weight through adulthood, plateaued for a while, then had to be put on insulin for diabetes at 230lbs, plus I quit smoking at the same time and gained quite a bit after that. Arthritis limits my mobility, which contributed. Resisted suggestions of surgery for a few years, but finally decided to do it after contemplating it for a few months. In the process of getting referred now. A big motivation is I want to get a dog again but I won't do it until I can go for walks, which I can't do right now (I use a walker).
