HELLO! I am 53 and diabetic. I was diagnosed 3 years ago with diabetes. It runs in my family.  My sugars run about  150. I was determined to get rid of it. I tried to modify my diet and it helped but I would fall off the wagon. Doctor added medication as I was against ever having to use insulin. I had to give into insulin and decided I was done with that. I dont want to spend the rest of my life taking my blood sugar in the morning and at night, etc.

I previously started the gastric bypass journey in 2014. My boss talked me out of it saying you can do this without surgery. So I stopped pursuing the surgery.  2017 came along and I am still not down despite watching and adding more medication and insulin. I said I want to do the surgery for ME. I want to run around with my 6 grandchildren.

I have completed all but  two nutrition appointments. Upcoming surgery will probably be May/June 2018.

I have to decide which surgery to do: Gastric bypass or Sleeve.

I have been told that with the Sleeve  has no guarantees of Diabetes going away at all and  has an increase in GERD. Bypass no GERD and 99% of diabetes gone for good.  But I have heard alot of negative about the Bypass dumping syndrome (which is my biggest FEAR) and been told alot of issues with bypass versus sleeve.

My goal is to say goodbye to diabetes and get healthier.

I met someone who is part of this community and she encouraged me to come aboard and be part of it, hence here I am.

Best wishes to all who go this path. I am looking forward to meeting people going down this path.
