Starting my Weight Loss Journey

Oct 17, 2017

I have fought obesity for my entire life.  I have been up and down but the periods when I have been at a reasonably normal weight have been limited.  I am 5 feet 8 inches and have been in the 200 pound range for most of my life.  My highest ever was 276.  I am now 253.  I went to the doctor yesterday for a check up and brought up the subjective of weight loss.  He agreed that it may be a very good option for me as I am a diabetic with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and am 108 pounds overweight.  So.... I decided to move forward and start the process.  I am tired of yo yo dieting and want to lose the weight and keep it off.  I am not a soda drinker and I don't really snack a lot between meals.  I eat a pastry in the morning with coffee and oatmeal on the weekends.  I rarely have lunch and if I do it isn't much.  For dinner I overeat when it comes to pasta or rice and things like that.  I don't really eat a lot of bread either.  I have developed an aversion to most meat so it is hard for me to even know what I want to eat.  I love salads and some vegetables like squash, brussel sprouts, cabbage, and things like that.  I also enjoy soups.  I do like beans a lot and TACOS!!!!.  I still find on most days my food intake is mostly carbs and that is what is doing it to me... it is the only thing that really ever sounds good.  So.. I need to find more protein sources and eliminate the carbs.  I have some work to do.  I need to at least start a walking program if nothing else and do some toning exercises or something.  I live in California and am going through Kaiser in South Sacramento.  If anyone has used them before it would be good to hear your experience with them.  I was a member of this site over 10 years ago when I was contemplating weight loss surgery and I wish I had gone through with it then.  I found this site very helpful and the people were all so nice and full of helpful information.  I wish all of you much success in your journeys with weightloss and weight control.
