I have a NEW DATE! This coming Wednesday, Sept 25th! My latex testing came back positive and my surgeon, Dr. Eugene Eumsey Jr., kept his word and worked me back into the schedule. I'm so glad that I don't have to wait weeks and weeks for the day to get here. Plus my Mom is going to be able to come down to San Diego with us and be there with me. Just had to share my news. May God bless ya'll! (((Group Hug)))

Wow Debbie Ann, What a close call! Praise God for protecting you! That would have been horrible for you if you had had surgery that day! I pray your new date will be SOON! Keep us updated! Tami

Thanks so much for all of the encouraging e-mails! I really needed AND APPRECIATE the support! I just got back from spending the morning at the allergy specialist's office being tested for latex allergies. The skin tests are positive and he has already contacted my surgeon to discuss my case. He feels my surgery should be the first one of the day because latex powder from opening gloves and sterile tubing etc, earlier in the day could be in the air. Just for information - the third batch of testing actually involved an injection (just under the skin) and we could tell immediately that it was going to be positive, because it was extremely painful! Within 5 minutes I started to feel itchy and broke out in hives, my face turned beet red and my neck and chest were flushed. So - no doubt about it! The Lord was watching over me and my health, when he allowed my WLS to be cancelled on Tuesday. Thank God HE alone is in control - no matter how I try and work things behind the scenes! I'm just waiting to hear from the surgery scheduler what my new date will be! I pray that the Lord will be watching over all those who had surgery today and as well as those still jumping through the hoops!

Debbie, Im sorry to hear about your surgery being cancelled. I hope there is a way to work around your allergy and will soon become a loser :) You're in my thoughts. "He who has health has hope; and he who has hope has everything." - Arabian Proverb

Well, my surgery date was yesterday and I’m not yet on the “losing” side. ***I posted the long version of the entire drama on my profile page, and won’t bore you here.*** My surgery was cancelled during my pre-op screening, because they think I may have a latex allergy. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement, but apparently this is a BIG DEAL. They have to set up the operating room differently and it even affects the way the surgeon does the procedure. I said “NO” to the “latex allergy” box,” but yes to “rashes from band-aids or gloves” and that was enough to get me booted off the surgery list. Scripps Mercy Hospital has had a lawsuit with one such case and is super sensitive about the issue. Apparently this is something that accumulates in your system and can cause you to go into respiratory arrest and die. One of the other women in my group of people who were having surgery the same day said, “You’re going to have your surgery, you were just not meant to have it September 17th.” This was my “Aha” moment. My mother hated that my surgery was scheduled for that day, because my sister, Annette, died years ago on September 17th, after a two year battle with breast cancer.) So she was more than relieved that it was postponed. She also pointed out that if the pre-op nurse hadn’t caught this, maybe she really would have lost both of her daughters on the same day. Suffice it to say that this has been an emotionally charged and exhausting ordeal. I know (in my head) that this is all for the best and that I SHOULD be grateful that they are being so careful, but it’s hard to FEEL grateful right now! I just want to be past this big hurdle of the surgery, so I can get on with the recovery. I don’t know when I will be rescheduled, but I hope it’s soon, and will be sure to let you all know. Until then, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers! I'm praying for all of my "September pals" too, and wishing you the absolute best! (((Group Hug)))
