Constantine T. Frantzides

"Dr. Frantzides saved my life and I'll always be grateful. Dr. Frantzides is not only the best in the Midwest in laprascopic surgery, he is an amazingly caring, compassionate physician. He has been personally involved in my care and has a "hands on" approach which I really appreciate. He is also available by telephone, unlike many other physicians I have worked with. I was quite worried about the procedure since I have many other health problems including pulmonary difficulties, but I had supreme confidence in him and felt that if anyone could ensure the best outcome for me, it was Dr. Frantzides. During the surgery, he encountered one of the largest livers he'd ever seen (mine!) and despite the challenges, was still able to complete the laprascopic procedure! I doubt any other surgeon could have done so. If you are looking for one of the obesity surgery "mill" programs, you won't find it here. You will need to be an equal partner in your health care and follow through on those things that need to get done prior to surgery, and in follow up afterwards. There is a patient support group and a dietician available. Dr. Frantzides does stress the importance of lifelong follow up. The office in the Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's professional building is a bit small with many surgeons practicing out of it, and other staff are average, but the valet parking (not free) at the front door is great. If masterful laprascopic skill along with personalized attention and patient focus are important to you -- and of course they are -- you cannot find anyone better than Dr. Frantzides in the Chicago area. "

Rush Presbyterian St Luke Medical Center

"This is a teaching hospital and the surgeons operating there are top notch and highly competent. I did not find the nursing or tech staff any better or less overworked than at other hospitals I've been in recently; there are some great ones and some not so great. It's a good thing I brought my own nightgown, however, or I would have been naked -- they didn't have a gown to fit me on the entire 9th floor and I guess no one was able to get one in the entire hospital (although they seemed to have plenty at surgery check-in). They sent me up from recovery in a bed full of blood from removing the arterial line and spoiled the gown I got before surgery. They tried to stuff me into a gown that was too small on my arms so it only came part way up; as soon as I was able to get to my bag I unpacked my own gown and was then able to get up and around with some semblance of modesty. Sometimes you may have to wait an hour or two for water or something else you may need, but I find this typical of all hospitals these days. The care on the 9th floor was much less attentive than the care on the 7th floor in the Atrium building -- almost like a different hospital!"

Jack Chamberlin

"Dr. Chamberlin is a friendly, highly intelligent physician with a genuine concern for his patients. (Gals, he looks pretty fine too.) He treats me with kindness and respect, and never shrinks from touching me, like some physicians I've seen."

Robert Hart

"Dr. Hart knows his field but doesn't have much sympathy for fat people. He told me I had to quit smoking -- which I did. He then told me that I should be able to lose weight since I was able to quit smoking, proving to him that I had willpower and wasn't just a lazy, fat slob. He did, however, write a brief letter in support of my insurance denial appeal. Perhaps he's just a poor communicator? I hope so. "
