Staten Island University Hospital (North Site)

"Where do I begin? I'm 5 days post-op and returned home this morning. They didn't have my pain meds ready so I sat in recovery with a freshly opened abdomen screaming. They took my morphine pump away by accident and couldn't help my until the doctor came, which took hours. I layed in my own filth b/c no one would help my when I had my first bowel movement. I was told by the aide to "do the best you can" as far as wiping. Pain management was awful and I honestly think that I would have been better off at home with a nurse's aide. DO NOT expect much from this hospital or Dr. Macura and his staff. I haven't seen Dr. Macura since May 28th!!! He sends his residents and one of his associates around once in awhile. Disgusting."

Edith Calamia

"Edith Calamia is an excellent PCP. She is young, energetic, compassionate and very friendly. I have been going to her for about 3 years now. She was also considering WLS at one time, but she decided against it. I must warn you that she doesn't have much experience with WLS, but is willing to listen and offer support for those who truly need the surgery. Also, she won't reccomend you for WLS if you're just barely morbidly obese. I was 300 pounds and 5'3 and she was hesitant...which I was a little dissapointed about. For a family doc she's great. For someone looking for a doc's refferal for WLS...she's not so great."
