Paul Nelson

"The first time I saw Dr. Nelson was when I wanted my referral to Dr. Jacobs for WLS. He admitted that he didn't know much about the surgery, but told me that if I was sure I wanted to look into it, he'd give me the referral. I also voiced my concerns that I was suffering from depression, and he didn't do what most doctors have done - I expected him to give me an anti-depressant. Instead, he said he thought I should just talk to someone about what was going on with me (a psychologist or other professional). I will definitely feel comfortable seeing him in the future for whatever reason. "

St. Josephs

"My surgeon is wonderful, his assistant doctors seemed really competent (somewhat humorless, though!), and the nurses were so nice! Pre-op, everyone that I dealt with was very kind and made me feel safe. The only problem I had was with my reaction to the narcotics they gave me (Oxycodon). Apparently I have a low tolerance. That in itself isn't their fault, but after they gave me my second dose, no one checked on me, and when my family came to see me I was in really bad shape. No one ever apologized, but from what I understand, they never do - for liability reasons. I would go back to St. Joseph again, but I will never be alone in my room without my family again!"

Ronni Kahn

"Dr. Kahn was very polite and kind. Her office did seem a bit disorganized, but she really made up for it by the way she treated me! I don't know whether or not she'll end up being my long-term care provider - I wasn't entirely comfortable with her. Something about her intimidated me; it may have been just the fact that I was nervous and didn't know what to expect from her. I do plan on going back for more counseling at least once. I will have a better idea of how helpful she will be in the long run after that! She did, however, write a thorough, competent letter for my insurance approval. She is also an eating disorder specialist, which is hard to find in Omaha!"

Danny Jacobs

"I haven't met with Dr. Jacobs, but I've heard all good things! I can't wait!!! I have been to the support group that meets at the hospital and it's wonderful. The bariatric program coordinator, Michelle has been really great so far. My appointment with Dr. Jacobs is February 2nd. I can't wait!! 1/11/02- Michelle called me on Monday and asked if it would be okay to bump up my appointment with Dr. J to today!! I met him this morning, and he is so great. I did research on him, and nobody had anything negative to say about him, and now I see why. He joked with me about my love of chocolate :0) I've never had a doctor kid around with me before, and I wish more docs were like him. All of my questions were patiently and thoroughly answered. I am so confident that I made the right choice!"
