Jefferson Vaughan

"I first met Dr. Vaughan at one of his lectures. He is not overweight and I asked him why he did this, why did he care. His answer was that this was the only surgery that could resolve so many problems (co-morbidities) with one surgery. That impressed me, he seemed sincere. After my consultation when he let me ask as many questions as I wanted and answered them completely, I knew he was a good doctor. As I spoke to many of his patients I learned that he was a good surgeon as well as a good man. He has a great sense of humor which I always appreciate. His staff is friendly, efficient and effective. Carol, Debbie and Tina put up with my calls and question and always get back to me with answers. Nutrition and aftercare are important to Dr. V. He is sure to let you know that RNY is not a cure for obesity but a tool and how you use that tool is up to you. His aftercare program includes a gym with exercise equipment and a swimming pool area that is for the exclusive use of bariatric patients (no skinny minnies to compete with, except those who have been where we are). He address the risk of surgery up front and answered any questions about the risk frankly and completely. I am completely informed about the risks but am not afraid to take the risk. I will not have surgery until 05/06/2002 but I am confident his surgical skills are above average, and I am sure his bedside manner is equal to the task."
