Hi Karen, I had surgery on 9/20/03, I weighed 252 on the day of surgery. I am now at 164. I am loosing very slow now. I went from a size 24 to a 14. I thought I was finished at around 180, but it is still slowly coming off. I have not drank one soda since my surgery. I have tried to sip on them but I guess I have conditioned myself to water and now that is all that I drink. I was a mountain dew fanitic, but I cant stand the sweetness anymore, and I do not like the taste of diet sodas. Hang in there I bet your weight loss is not finished with you yet.. Melissa

Hi, Karen: I'm 10 days post-op and I know what you mean about craving a pop. My surgeon's office told us we could have carbonated beverages at 3-6 months out. Beware, though, that "carbonated beverages typically contain phosphoric acid that binds to the calcium in one's bones and may lead to osteomalacia and osteoporosis." This is a quote from my surgeon's guidelines; so I definitely wouldn't get into the habit of drinking it as frequently as I used to (I used to drink at least 64 oz. of diet coke a day!) I would think it would be ok as an occasional treat. Good luck, and God Bless! proximal lap rny 08/19/03, -17 lbs.

Karen~~Be careful with carbonated beverages. Suzanne Anderson posted some information a couple of days ago regarding some studies that have been done on the subject. Here is just an excerpt of her comments, "Many weight loss surgery patients see a Diet Coke™, or Diet Pepsi ™, or a Diet [insert your favorite flavor here] as their last and only "acceptable sweet" that's generally considered to be calorically and socially acceptable. If you are really interested in doing your best to be absolutely sure you can successfully lose your excess weight and then keep it off, you'll carefully consider the evidence. Our Success Habits™ study showed that the most successful patients who reach and maintain their goal weight do not drink carbonated beverages. Additionally, our continuing experience has been that most former patients who have re-gained significant weight, and have returned to the support center to take our Back On Track class, have been drinking carbonated beverages. These two long-term observations tell us that choosing to drink carbonated beverages can be detrimental to your long-term success. GOOD LUCK....

I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~*~ I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind, I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.**hugs**
