William Marx

"I chose Dr. Marx after seeking a second Opinion. I had originally seen Dr. Halverson, also in Syracuse. Dr. Halverson only does VBG. I wanted to have RNY. If interested, see below for my impressions of Dr. Halverson. My first impression of Dr. Halverson was that he was pleasant, very matter of fact. When I questioned him about RNY versus VBG he was adamant that VBG is the best choice with fewer complications, especially involving malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies. In both procedures you need to eat very small meals and stop when you are full. He gave me a booklet outlining the proper way to eat (chewing 20 times, waiting 5 minutes between bites and not drinking for 45 minutes before or after a meal) and he explained the reasons for this. DR. MARX: Dr. Marx was also pleasant. He reiterated the eating plan outlined above, which I understand and will adhere to, but also that RNY includes a bypass which makes the remaining portion of the stomach non functional. This is the procedure I wanted in the first place. Through all of my research I have contacted many people and asked many questions. This procedure has better statistics long term. So,I have decided to go with it. Dr. Marx said to go home and think about it more for 6 weeks and if I still want, he will schedule the surgery. I will update more after I see him again in 6 weeks. Update 6/21/00: I saw Dr. Marx again today. I spent more time discussing the procedure and the risks with him. I brought a list of questions with me which he answered completely. I am very happy with my choice and am quite confident that this is the best surgeon and the best procedure for me. Update: 8/13/00 Now that I am post-op I feel more qualified to comment on Dr. Marx. He was absolutely wonderful during the hospital stay and the surgery went off with absolutely no complications. I was out of the hospital absolutely when he said i would be! I am very happy with my choice and I know it was the right one for me. "
