Hi, I read your posting about being scared. Everyone is. If you're not something is wrong!! I know I was scared---scared of dying of my fat, obese self. I wanted to live more than I was. I wanted to be with my dear wife and adult son and his 4 kids, my sweet grandchildren. I want to see Oklahoma again!!!! I am from Woodward. Do you know where that is? I want you to click on my name below and read my profile. I died in 1987 in a terrible accident and was brought back to life by some emt's. I had this surgery so that I would not die again so soon. Please read my story and see how I have beat death twice!!!!! Bless you and your surgical team.

I'm wishing you an uneventful, complication free surgery and a speedy, smooth recovery. I had my open RNY on Dec. 10, 2001 and am so glad I did. Its the best thing I could have done for myself. God bless you as you begin your new life as a healthy person.

Hi Pamela - I saw your post and wanted to let you know that you are not alone, it would be abnormal not to be scared and nervous. You are going to change your life! I went into the surgery KNOWING that it could be my last day on earth, but also knowing deep down that I would come thru okay. When I woke up from surgery, I remember my first thought being "I'm alive!". Anxiety is normal, but try not to let it wear down your resistance-you don't want to end up with a cold or the flu and have your surgery postponed. Try to remember that you are changing your life, that without the surgery you will just be older and heavier and not-so healthy and isn't getting healthy the main reason you want this surgery? I can't tell you for certain that you will be fine, but have faith in your surgeon and God. FYI I was REALLY nervous the day before surgery, but the day OF surgery, I was calm and confident that I was SAVING my life. I have lost 57lbs in a little over 3 months - amazing, huh? Even after surgery, I have some mood swings, but for the most part, I am VERY happy that I have taken control of my life. Hang in there and keep us posted! Feel free to Email me if you have any questions or need some support! Good luck!

Hi Pam: I understand your anxiety! My surgery is March 12. My days are consumed with thinking about this surgery, the outcome, the pain, the blood clots, the protein, alcohol or no alcohol, coffee or no coffee, the vitamins! Soooo much information! Yes, death is a possibility as it is with all surgeries, but we must focus on the positive. Our surgeons are capable and experienced. We will be as prepared as we possibly can be. And we will be confident in and grateful for our favorable outcome. God Bless! Jo
