I've had a fairly uneventful, problem-free surgery and first 6 days post-op. I'm eating things I shouldn't and doing well. It's not necessarily my rebellious spirit, but boredom. I WANT TO CHEW ! ! ! God is soooooo in control of my well-being. He is keeping me unusually accountable. I am so blessed. I want to encourage all the pre-ops out there to contact me for any encouragement. I am full of it, encouragement I mean. Denise

Denise, You've had the surgery, now your recovering, may your pain be less with each passing day, as the lighter side of you starts shinning through. Congratulations!!!

Saw Denise at the hospital this morning-- she's still pretty weak but she can walk around once she stands up. She apparently had (pardon my lack of medical knowledge) the X-ray thing where they look for leaks just after I left around 9:00 AM. She looks a lot better, physically, than I thought she would, after a mostly sleepless night (she said). Anyway, I'll probably be giving her a ride home tomorrow morning.

Just spoke to Denise again-- she called me here at work at 3:45 AM. She says she's been walking up and down the halls trying to pee, 'cause they want her to pee. Of course her mouth is completely dry, it's no wonder her bladder is too. She said they gave her a lollipop and it was like putting a big piece of cotton in her mouth. No saliva at all. But she's been getting IV fluids of course. She sounds good, emotionally speaking, but her voice is kinda croaky right now. :-) Same sense of humor, same old (young) Denise. I'm looking forward to seeing her lose weight over the next several months. --Clay

Sorry, meant to make that an update below. This was my first time, be easy on me. :-)

For those who are following Denise's path to a new life-- this is her brother Clay. I spoke to her briefly on the phone tonight (I work at night and sleep during the day so I could not go to the hospital yesterday) but she was sedated and not making much sense. :-) But my (our) father was there, as well as her husband, and they told me she got up and walked around already yesterday afternoon. They said the surgery went very well. I'll be seeing her tomorrow morning (Friday) after work.
