Christy Mc Cann!!!! I had to stop smoking for 3 mos before surgery or my surgeon would not do my surgery. If you think you can fool them, THINK AGAIN!!!!!! They have tests to find out how much oxygen you have in your blood. I smoked for 40 yrs and quit cold turkey. I just wanted this life saving surgery so bad!! I had my surgery on June 28th, 2001 and have lost 95 lbs so far and I have not had a cigarette yet nor do I plan on starting again. Do you know how bad smokers stink?? I didn't realize it until I stopped. The breath stinks, clothes stink and you won't believe how bad your house stinks. Beside that, why are you having this surgery? Isn't it to improve your health and prolong your life? You are doing all this work to make your life better and if you start smoking again you defeat yourself. I am taking all the money I would have spent on cigarettes and saving it for clothes!!!! I don't know how much cigarettes are where you live, but where I live they are about $42.00 a carton!!!!!
Do yourself a big favor and quit as soon as you possibly can. It will make surgery so much easier on you. Care for your self, do it for your self and your health. I said I would NEVER quit and now it has been 1 yr. It's not as hard as I thought it would be. I still crave a cigarette now and then, but I realize it is only a habit and a bad habit at that. Good luck to you. Don't ever give up trying!!! We all love you and care about your health and well being.
