Hello everyone! I am a very happy man. Yesterday was a wonderful day. I met with my team and it went fantastic. I was received by great administrative staff, had to fill out a lengthy questionnaire and mdical history. After that, I met with one of Dr. Ren's partners, and he went through my medical history in detail. Took my BP, weight, and vital signs. Then I met with Dr. Ren, she was very informative and was very impresed with all the pre work I had done before meeting her. At the time she accepted me as a patient and gave me a surgery date of April 21, 2003. Then I met with the Nutritionist, she was very good, very knowledgeable and great educator. She gave me a booklet with all the information I need to review and know. She went through the whole booklet with me. Then I met with the Billing Coordinator and in 20 minutes, believe it or not, I had my surgery approved. My plan does not cover Dr. Ren's services, so I will be paying outof pocket at least $10,000. I need to pay 50% before surgry and the rest within 60 days after the surgery. Thank GO, I had been saving money. It is a great feeling. I did not react, until one day later, it finally started to hit me....My journey continues .....

Hello, I just had my sleep test last night and it was a very interesting experience. I had it at Lenox Hospital Sleep Center, the technician was fantastic, but the room was too hot, thank God she got me a fan, ad that I brougt my own pillow. With all the cables they place on your body, it's very hard to sleep your way. But I got it done, and as I thought, I do have sleep apnea. But it's time to deal with the problem and get it under control in order to continue with preparations for surgery. The big day is tomorrow. I have an appt. with Dr. Ren and then with the Nutritionist. I am still concerned that she won't accept me as a patient due to my high BMI. I will know tomorrow. Wish me luck.

3/11/03 - So far I have completed three big steps, I had my visit with the pulmonologist, and after several pulmonary function tests, I was very happy to here that they were normal, but as I mentioned before, we both think I have sleep apnea, therefore a sleep test was ordered. I will go to Lenox Hill Sleep Center on 3/16/03 for the sleep test. I also had a stress test, ecocardiogram, EKG and spirometer test with NORMAL results. Today, I had my pyschological evaluation with Dr. Nederman and it went very well. I never knew how great it was to talk to a stranger about the struggles in your life with no judgement following. My consultation with Dr. Ren will be next week. If by any chance that she cannot accept me as patient due to my BMI, I am looking at Dr. Jerzy Macura in Staten Island just in case. I am still psyched, even though, I had to take a break over the weekend, since I was getting overwhelmed with so much information. My journey continues......

Jerry, Good luck to you as you begin this journey to health and wellness. Any questions or concerns, you can always ask about here. I'm just about 8 months out now, and feel like an old pro. Again, good luck to you. Be a very informed patient, read everything you can, and prepare yourself for the physical and emotional changes BEFORE they happen. This makes all the difference.
