Well it has been awhile since I have been here.. It has been 2 years and 5 months since surgery and I and down from 278 lbs size 24/28 to 138 lbs size 8. I feel great. I feel normal... still run into people that have not seen me since surgery or for the last year and ask "atkins or South beach?" I just smile and say "Surgery" most are very curios, especially if they have seen me eat, I am one of the ones that can eat more that most, or so I am told. Sometimes I can eat a whole small cheeseburger, it depends on what I had earlier. I will put what I want on my plate and have a bite or two of each thing. people say, I expected you to be eating mushy food and only teaspoons..I say "yeah, that s only for the first few weeks...Anyway, I really feel great, I feel like my old self again. I have a little sagging going on in the thigh and stomach area, I would like some work there, but f I never get it I am still thrilled! My husband on the other hand....Never said anything negative about me at 278lbs, yet now comments on my "poochie" stomach area..What is up with that? Can't please everyone I guess. Oh, well I did this for me. not him.. I wanted to be here for my kids...And now I am more involved and happy. That is what counts. Yes that first size 8 pair of pants was wonderful, but the first time my 8 years old said "mom, do you realize that we have been out ALL day running around and you did not have to stop or go home early, you were fun!" That was better that any size 8! Now a size 5...') Best wishes for all in there journey!!! Tricia

Well, I am at 172 lbs....still going slow and steady, emphasis on the slow!! I am actually very happy with my progress. I think I still have a good chance of getting to goal. I think I may need a body lift though...It is not too bad, but would be nice to have, but I still have a way to go before I decide on that. I feel good overall, still feel like I eat to much so I am going back to basics, protien shakes and liquid/puree for a few days and see what happens. I still struggle to get all my vitamins and water in, but am working at it constantly!! 10/15/02

Thanks Patricia for your thoughts on how to deal with my families negative view of weight loss surgery. You are right it is my body and I have struggled with weight ever since I was 8 years old. I have tried just about every diet out there and exercised too. I will do my best to educate them on this. I gave my sister this web site address so she could see for herself that this surgery is saving and changing lives. She also needs to lose over 100 pounds but says she would never let anyone cut on her like that. Again, I have to do what is right for me. My health is getting worse. Just diagnosed a diabetic, on blood pressure meds also on meds for my back and knees. On medication for depression also. I need to lose about 150#. I would say I am a candidate for weight loss surgery.

OOPPSS, Meant to say possible goal weight of 130 lbs!!!NOT 103..

Patricia R. 21 years, 7 months ago

YEAH!!! I am an officially 101 lbs down as of this morning! I am at 177 lbs....goal, possibly 103, but I will see what my body thinks about that one. I am starting to look into plastic surgery...I am no sure if I will need it, definatley the arms..not sure about thighs and stomach area. We will see. Any input..should I start seeing a Plastic surgeon to document rashes, back pain and such...my PCP is not very co-operative reagrding WLS issues so he would be a waste of time. Any thoughts on that process..

7/20/02 Hi again, My last post had and error, I had lost 84 lbs not 88 yet! Anyway I have been on a little plataue since then. I gained 5 lbs, then lost 3lbs then gained 2lbs, finally this morning I am back to 194lbs, YEAH! I am serious..stay away from the scale everyday! I was worried all this time that something was wrong and If I had not been jumping on the scale everyday I would have been fine! Things a re back on track and I vow to only weigh once a week..maybe every 2 weeks! I just feel better being further away from that 200lb mark! anyway, just a mini update. next time I will get my measurements here to see what is going on there!

Well, I am 7 months out now and started at 278lbs and now I am at 194lbs, I can't keep up with the inches falling off, It seems that the scale will be at one place for a few days, then drop a few pounds and so on. When the scale is standing still the inches are coming off, so those of you that are glued to the scale..get out that tape measure!! It will help you when you think you are not losing. I still feel like I can eat more than I should, but nowhere near what I use to be able to eat, and I keep "melting" away, so I am not to concerned. I just make a concious effort to pay attention to portions, it kind of sneaks up on me when I get full, I will not feel full and take another bite and will have to use a napkin to empty the bite from my mouth because my head/stomach say's No way is that coming down! Anyway, I have started the Leslie Sansome, walk away the pounds for abs, with the belt for arms/abs. I do the 15 minute mile every morning and when I add another one at night I will increase the first one to the 2 mile for a total of three miles a day. So far I love it. it is really helping with my arms..the only place I feel is not firming up as nice as everything else. I am interested to see if the exercising helps with the overall "melting" process. That is all for now..oh, I wanted to lose 100lbs before my vacation..I did not, but I will take the 88lb loss with a great big smile!
