Hey, July 22 is my birthday! OK. Pain. I'm the world's biggest wimp. Keeping that in mind . . . My experience wasn't bad. I had lap rny on Thurs. AM, 5/29. Yes, it hurt doing things like getting in an out of bed, that's the pits, but I found once I was up and started moving, it wasn't bad. Same thing with coughing or sneezing, getting up and down from a chair or the bathroom. I found if I was just sitting quietly or trying to take a nap I had really very little discomfort. I was also lucky . . . I can honestly say I had no gas pain. The whole experience has moments of pain/discomfort, but its short lived. Every day does get better. I was driving a week after surgery. I sincerely hope your surgical experience and recovery are as easy and almost painfree as mine was. Good luck, Linda

Hi Linda, I had lap RNY on 1/30/03. I was in the hospital for 53 hours, had some discomfort but no pain!! I was worried too, but it was ok... take care and best wishes

Hi Linda - I posted this on the message board too, you asked some great questions I had surgery April 23rd of this year (-58 lbs!)...the pain in my left shoulder was the worst...I know, it's an odd place, but I remember telling the doctor as I came out of the anesthesia how much it hurt! When they took the drain out before I left, the pain went away. I guess it was a long drain! I had a morphine pump, and I used that every 15 minutes. I can't say I really had a lot of pain, there was a lot of pressure and probably some pain (but I don't remember it as being really bad). I think the hardest was getting in and out of bed. Once I was up, the pain was minimal and walking was OK. Again, there was pressure, but no real pain. I didn't have any problems at all with the gas. I had morphine from the time I woke up after surgery until about 1/2 an hour before I left the hospital. That button was my friend! :-) I hope this helps...I was worried about these same things myself. I can truly say the hospital experience, surgery and all was not at all what I expected and had nothing to worry about.

Hi Linda, Don't worry, the prob moght not be a problem after all. I too had a stress test w/ the injection, I too got very ill from it and they had to give me 3 shots to bring me out of it. I then went on to have the heart cath done-- everything was great! The dr said he wishes his veins(or arteries) were like mine! So you see, modern medecine is not a 100% sure thing. Just try to think positive. De :)
