Leo Murphy

" I liked Dr. Leo Murphy from 1st meeting (orientation), and chose him for my surgeon because I felt confident in his capabilities. Just saw him again 5 days ago for my pre-op, and am even more sure of my choice. The office staff at Pacific Bariatric are great, as far as cooperating with you and your insurance and PCP to keep things progressing. They are very likeable as well on a personal level. I believe two or more of the staff members have had the surgery personally... As far as liking something least about him, he didn't give me a reason to not like him or have negative feelings or doubts- but of course those are just a first/second impressions. Future patients should know that he is very well qualified, very professional, very focused on the health and well being of the patient, not his pocket-book. He is also fairly demanding in his pre-op requirements, with good cause. Also, he is very accessible and human. Dr. Murphy emphasizes aftercare just as much as pre-op care, stressing that this is a whole life change, not a quick fix. Patients are repeatedly provided with material and resources to educate and prepare themselves for this life change. There is a very structured aftercare program; for local and non-local patients... non-locals are given aftercare by Pacific Bariatric and their own PCP in unison. All risks, benefits, and other relevant information is provided repeatedly, in various forms (oral and written at orientations, oral and written at pre-ops, etc.). Patients are given opportunity to ask anything they need, and are provided with a wealth of information. I was impressed that the subject of risks and complications was gone over with me so completely and seriously, rather than being taken lightly or passed over quickly. Overall, I would rate Dr. Leo Murphy as a good candidate for doing this surgery; but this is only my non-professional opinion. I also have only gotten as far as the pre-ops; I haven't had the experience of going through the surgical procedure with him yet. As far as bedside manner vs. surgical competence... since I haven't had the surgery yet, I would have to refer you to his bio and his qualifications rather than my personal experience regarding competence. As for bedside manner- you'll love him! Great guy! "
