299!

Mar 23, 2007

YAY! Today, I'm below 300lbs!  YAY!

I cannot even remember when I was below 300lbs.  It had to be just after Amanda was born, because I was 303 on the day she was born, almost 18 years ago.

I'm 7 weeks and 2 days post op, feeling good, and having lots of energy.  I am busy each and every day, without the need of a long nap during the day to help me get through.  I do still enjoy my Sunday afternoon nap, and hope that never goes away because it is a great luxury to me!

At this point, I'm able to eat a wide variety of foods - veggies, meats (haven't tried much beef), fish and shelfish.  My standard fall back when eating out is chili, especially at Wendy's.

I'm going to a water aerobics class 5 to 9 times per week, depending upon how many times I can get there.

I really need to do some shopping - my size 24 pants are getting big, and I need some new tops.  Since it has been so long since I've been this size, I don't have any smaller sizes in my closet to draw from!

I am surprised at the changes in how I look.  Sometimes, I get a "glimpse" of myself in the mirror, and I'm surprised to see that it is "ME" in the mirror.  My brain is trying to figure out who the person is.

So far, I'm pleased with my results.  I haven't had a lot of people ask me if I've lost weight.  I think that it has been slow enough that people think I've changed my hair, or something else.  Very few people know about my surgery, so the comments are interesting.

2 weeks out

Feb 15, 2007

Yesterday was the 2 week post surgery mark.  I have gone from 343.8 the day before surgery to 321.  To think that I've lost almost 23 lbs in 2 weeks is crazy.  I've cleared lots of clothes out of my closet because they are too big!  I'm in shock, because I'm the person whose clothes are never too big!

The past several days, I've been consistantly dropping .2 - .4 lb per day.  I had hoped that the scale would move faster, it is nice to see that it is going down each day.

So far, I've been doing great.  I haven't felt sick, I feel like I'm fine, and have to remind myself that i just have to be very careful how I eat.  Last night, John and I went out for dinner at Mimi's.  We shared the salmon dinner, and I ate a bit too much, and did throw up a bit.  I stopped eating dinner before I felt full, but about 30 - 40 minutes later, I knew that I couldn't keep the food down.

This morning, I went to have my labs done for my one month check up.  I'm hoping that everything will be good.  I've been good about getting my vitamins and protein in, as well liquids.

I'm looking forward to getting back to the Y and swimming -- hopefully in 2 weeks!

Home!

Feb 04, 2007

Home is a great place to be after being in the hospital!  My surgery went great and my recovery was going great until my IV infiltrated, causing phelibitis and a high fever.  I had to stay an extra day at the hospital until the fever came down.  I'm feeling great, and I'm thankful for my dear husband John and all of this help these past few days.  I'm also thankful that Scripps Mercy has the policy of having someone stay with you each day at the hospital.

I'm doing good getting my fluids in, I'll try the protein drink tomorrow.  For now, clear liquids is good.   Bottled Water

I am excited because my old clothes were already getting big because of the weight loss before surgery and when I got home and put on something other than pjs, everything was huge, and I got to "shop" in a smaller section of my closet.  YAY. Spaz

Is it real?

Jan 30, 2007

Today I leave my house as a heavy person and I will be back home in a few days with a tool that will help me become a healthier, more active person.

My pre-op appointment is this afternoon in San Diego, and surgery is in the morning.  We will spend the night in San Diego.  Hopefully, I will  be home on Saturday.

Since my consult with Dr. Tanaka, I've joined the Y and have been attending Aqua Fit water aerobics classes everyday.  Sometimes, I go twice a day to class, and then swim extra laps.  I really enjoy swimming and being in the pool.  As a kid growing up, I really enjoyed swimming, and now, I'm looking at that as my preferred exercise.

More than anything, I'm just trusting in the Lord to bring me through this process.  Originally, it was the Lord who challenged me to ask about the surgery.  I felt confident that I wouldn't have surgery because of problems I was having with iron.  Through is entire year, (I was referred for surgery Feb. 8, 2006), the Lord has opened every door and given me a strong peace to proceed with this surgery.  I am amazed that through all the tests I had done to find a cause for my anemia and iron problems, it was discovered that I really don't have anemia, but chronic inflammation that causes my iron levels to fall.  It is not true anemia.  I also discovered that I have a very healthy GI tract, but was told that my small bowel was much longer than expected.  I felt that it was a confirmation that this surgery would be a great help to me.

Sunday, my daughter Stephanie took photos of me.  I hope to get them uploaded once I get home.  They are my beginning shots, yet it's funny to think that I'm 45 lbs lighter in those photos than at my heaviest weight 3 years ago.

Today, as I sit and reflect, I'm just so thankful that I've been listening to my Lord speak to me and give me peace. I'm so glad that I can trust in Him.

See all of you in a few days when I'm home from the hospital.
