2 Months and.....

Jan 12, 2011

All is great! I'm down 48 lbs since the beginning of November (that includes the weight I lost during my 9 day pre-op diet) and while I don't see it when I look in the mirror people who don't see me on a daily/weekly basis are really noticing. My surgeon didn't order 3 month labs, so I called my pcp and he said to let him know what I need checked and he will add it to my lab slip for my annual boodwork thats due in February. Works perfectly for me.

Other than that, I can luckily say I've had a boring post op....no complications and I went to work 2 weeks after surgery. So,  that wasn't so bad. I don't see the surgeon again until May! By then I'm hoping to be close to goal. I want to WOW them!

this is how it all begins.....

Oct 20, 2010

Wow, I'm not usually at a loss of words, but for some reason I am right now.

I'm Kristina, I live in a really tiny town in the Adirondacks in Upstate, NY. My mom and dad felt the need to single handedly up the population in the town by at least half and that is why I have 8 siblings.  They did their job well, cause now, between my 3 children (ages 3 - 16)  I also have 17 nieces and nephews just on 'my' side of the family. I've been married to my wonderful husband Mike for 5 years, and I have to say, I'm glad I waited to find my Mr. Right - he's the best husband a woman could ask for.

I've always been a very active person, as a child I had 100+ acres to run around on and my mom used to have to blast and air horn to get us kids home (we were never within hollering distance), which meant I was hiking, running, rock climbing (all those things I'd never let my kids do without me with them LOL), I played on the local baseball team with my brothers and was swimming 'miles' by the time I was 6 years old. In high school I was active in sports as well, all went well until one of my brothers passed away in a house fire literally days before my oldest child was born. I later learned through therapy that I never properly grieved his loss because I had to start taking care of this little baby who depended on me for everything, therefore I wasn't really taking care of myself. Still, I was able to control the weight 'beast' for about 8 more years, until I was in a car accident, I broke both of my legs, my right foot/ankle was so bad that the orthopedic was unsure if I'd ever walk unassisted again. After 6 months in a wheelchair I'd gained weight (who wouldn't?), but was on the road to recovery and walking again. At this point I met my now husband, we had a whirlwind courtship and got engaged, during which time I had another ankle surgery and couldn't walk for 3 months again and it was a total of 6 months before I was walking both crutch and brace free, but I've been walking ever since!!! Then came two consecutive pregnancies, which added the weight.... but man I wouldn't trade those boys for anything.

I've tried everything to get this weight off, as of right now I walk about 5 miles a day 5 days a week, plus do toning exercises and light strength training. My kids and I hike mountains at least once a month in the good weather months.  I've been following the nutrition program that the nutritionist gave me 2 years ago without the scale really budging, when it does,it's only for a little while. I had given up hope, then I heard of the switch.....the first time I ever seriously considered weight loss surgery because I knew that with the others I could gain the weight back if I wasn't extremely careful.
