Two Week Post-Op Visit

Jun 18, 2012

After feeling like crap and not being able to get in protein, vitamins, and the daily amount of water I went to my surgeon today.  I felt horrible and didn't really think I could make the 45min. drive their and then 45 min. home.  My hubby drove me.  I was very exhausted already and more so after the parking lot hike.

The appointment went great I lost 19.7lbs in 13 days. Told me, I'm doing great and am on to Stage 2 for two weeks then Stage 3.

Went to Red Lobster and had 3 grilled shrimp.  Loved them!  I brought the leftovers home and ate the other 3 for dinner.
Food never tasted so good!

June 15th

Jun 15, 2012

I am 10 days post-op. I hate every minute of the Full liquids diet.  I am unable to get my protein in.  I am not even close to getting it in.  I have discovered I actually don't like the taste of water anymore. So, getting in all the water I am supposed to is very hard. I haven't been able to take any of the vitamins I am supposed. I am very disappointed in myself.  Right now I hate the decision I made to do this to myself.  I am hating every minute of every day right now.

I know I have been lucky in many aspects: no complications so far, no nausea, no pain and probably more, but I am so disappointed at this moment  I can't think of them.

I know this too shall pass, but holy cow it is awful right now.

After chickening out the night b4 surgery I feel like a failure and that has why I haven't posted since then.  Working on trying to decide if I am really ready.  I guess we will find out the beginning of June when I try again.

First full day on all liquids.  Horrible and the protein shake was disgusting!  Thank goodness for Nik and some other ladies on advice for what to add to the awful protein powder.  Order $150.00 worth of samples from Vitalady and syrup from Davinci.

Feeling like I want to everything I can't have.  I know it's my head, becasue I haven't actually been hungry all day today.  I so wish their was a way to get through the next 17.5 days or more of liquid and nasty protein shakes.

Saying my prayers, but I still feel like giving up!!! I so want solid food!  Actually every food I can imagine I want to eat and stuff it my mouth:(

It's been hard to cook and make food for my family knowing that I can eat it!!! It's very frustrating and making me very irritable at the same time.

Today I had all the pre-op tests done for the RNY-bypass next Wednesday.  The employees at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital were very welcoming and efficient.  I was in by 4:45 and on the way home at 6:00.  They did all of the bloodwork, chest x-rays, and an EKG.  So, it was a good finish to a tiring Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Today I received the approval from United Healthcare to switch from the vertical sleeve to the rny-gastric bypass.  You see this is me second journey to achieve life long health.  I had the lap-band put in, in October of 2005.  I lost about 70 pounds. However, it was very difficult to find the "sweet spot". I also had major trouble with "sliming" and food intake.  In August of this year the band slipped and I had to have it removed.  Since I have gained 25 pounds.  Then I had a diaphragmatic hernia repaired, MRSA abcess removed surgically and then pnuemonia from aspirating during surgery.
I am ready for the surgery. However, I am apprehensive about the liquid diet for 7 days prior to surgery and then two weeks post surgery.  Not looking forward to the "mushy" stage either.
