Insurance

May 07, 2010

Well, I just want to chronicle what stage I am in..in this whole process. It can be sooooooo frustrating!!! So this time last year, I decided I was going to have lap band. I went to the seminar, my 1st consult, sleep study and was scheduled for surgery on 7/14/09. My doc is Dr. Lana Nelson in Moore,OK. I just couldn't go through with it. I became worried about the fact that a lot of people never ever get to goal w/their Lapband. Not to mention all the back and forths with the fills and unfills. I don't have time for that! I am a single mom and the main reason I want this surgery is to be more active/healthy for my boys. I don't wanna go through all this to have to end up having the band removed and end up worse off than when I started! So....

Today, I have DECIDED to have VSG. But, my insurance has DECIDED that the band is experimental  but I am not giving up, just going to wait it out. I have Bluelincs HMO (bcbs of ok) and at some point ( sooner than later I hope!) they will figure out this surgery has less complications and is a better choice for SOME of us! I called yesterday and just got ticked off! They don't even have the cpt (43775) code in their system! UGH. But, their weight loss surgery policy states its experiemental. But it doesn't really elaborate on whether or not that is in conjunction with DS. I am very hopeful/excited that UHC and Aetna are starting to cover it, and I hope that is a sign of good things to come! I am also thrilled that my mother has decided that she will consider VSG as well. She was totally turned off by RNY/Lapband. I worry more about her health than I do my own! I love my mommy! LOL (I am 30 so, well beyond the stage when that phrase would be considered cute! :p) She is diabetic and I would give anything to see her not have to take insulin shots everyday! She will be 62 next week and I want her to LIVE!!!! Live like no one else...

I have really only talked to my mom about this situation. Everyone is so damn judgemental, it pisses me off! But the funny parts are the ones who are the MOST judgemental are overweight themselves! Pleeasssse...at least I am attempting to change my situation. I have done it all! Pills, shakes, not eating after 6,atkins (which i have had the MOST success with and has forever changed the way I look at the fat/carbs situation) BUT I have not been able to maintain those losses for any significant amounts of time! I have been walking almost every day since I moved to my new home (I live right next door to my BFF). But the weight is not budging...:(

Anyway, so the plan is to play the weighting (so clever, right!? LOL) game until me and moms insurance will cover. She has Medicare/UHC. I am really looking forward to changing my life! I am wayyy, and I do mean way too cute to be FAT.  just kiddin, but I do feel like I am wasting potential. I printed off the preop diet from another website (Weightwise) and am going to attempt to try that. I like the fact that you cannot have starches, as eliminating the carbs helps me tremendously! Well, I will try to check in as often as possible. I am enjoying reading here, and one of these days I will start posting!
