Complications after 1982 bypass surgery

Mar 19, 2010

My name is Angela, in July 1982, I had the original bypass preformed. I was 253 lbs. My lowest weight was 135 lbs.
Since my procedure I have had a drastic change in my health. (1) I have Hepititis C, a-1, (2) periphreal neuropathy in
my feet and legs, and had to have a superpubic foley cath placement in 2004, thank God it hasn't progressed any further. (3) vitamin levels are low, now taking 1500 mg of B-12 per day, am on Pamelor, Cymbalta. I have gained back up to 205lbs, but am currently 188 lbs, and work real hard to keep it there. I have to have a high fiber diet because I now have pain in my abdomen. I have been to GI's, neurologists, hepologist, urinologist and nephrologist, because my kidneys failed, reason for foley cath. I was recently told by a general surgeon, who preformed an upper and lower endoscopy, that I need to find a bariatric surgeon, because once you have the surgery, you have to be followed extensively. I have moved from SC to NC, and am in desprate need of  a BARIATRIC SURGEON. There are no known reasons for the complications that I have. I am permentaly disabled. I use a wheelchair, I have limited walking ablility, using a walker. I am only 49 yrs old. I suffer from depression, not to mention the pain and aggravation of going for test after test only to be told that they can't find a cause. My older sister had the bypass 1 year after I had mine, she had a hyaneal hernia, she also developed PN, and contracted HCV. She passed away 10 yrs ago. PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU, THINK TWICE AND THINK HARD BEFORE HAVING THIS SURGERY.
