Well tomorrow is the day.  I go in for my 3 week follow up.  I will now get to add some other foods besides just drinking the protein shakes.  I am so excited to be able to have something new and that I can actually chew.  Nothing more is going on right now.  I got on the scale today and it says I am down 22 pounds.

I am still enjoying the glorious fluid routine until 2/2.  I am feeling pretty good, just trying to get my walking up to 1 mile per day or more.  I am having some depression right now, I am not sure why.  I weighed this morning and I am down 20 lbs which I still find mind blowing.  Even reading other people's postings and I see the weight loss they have had during the same period but it is different when it is yourself.  I will be glad to begin soft foods at the end of next week because my husband has been cooking for our daughter and himself and it sure has smelled mighty good.  On Friday, I will start having to plan meals so that I can figure out which foods my pouch will tolerate.  I think the key to this whole life changing event will be variety so that I don't slide back into my old habits.  I will check back in again later this week after my 3 week check up and first food since the surgery.  I haven't had anything to eat since 1/7 and I am ready to eat.

Here I am still drinking my fluids.  I have already lost 17 pounds which I find remarkable.  I am following my instructions 100% from the doctor.  I am working on the daily walking.  I have only been walking around the house as per the doctor's instructions.  So today I walked .30 miles which is a great accomplishment for me.  Tomorrow I will try to walk .50 and keep trying to up by .25 until I do a mile a day.

I am home from the hospital 1/12/07

Jan 12, 2007

I came home from the hospital yesterday, and I am feeling pretty good.  I am doing well on my protein drinks and liquids.  I haven't really had any urges yet regarding wanting food or any hunger pains.  My stay in the hospital left alot to be desired.  Here is my journey so far.  I went into the hospital 1/9/07 at 5:45 am.  I was surprised that everything about that went so smoothly.  I was on the operating table at 7:00 am.  I came out of surgery about 10:00 am.  Everything had gone well and it was done laparscopically which I am so glad about.  They didn't have a room for me so I had to wait in recovery until they had a room ready.  Normally gastric bypass patients are on the 5th floor but they put me on the 4th floor.  My nurse during the day was wonderful.  She took care of my every need.  The night nurse the first night was horrible.  My husband had gone home to sleep and take the dog out so I was alone.  They were taking my stats every hour which is understandable after surgery.  The nurse insisted upon getting me to stand up beside the bed.  That wouldn't have been so bad except I had started menustrating the day before and during surgery they had taken off my mesh undies and catheterized me.  When they put me on my bed they didn't put anything on me so of course I had been sitting in all of that mess since surgery until about 11:30 pm.  I expained to the nurse that I having my monthly friend and that we would need to do something.  She made me to get out of bed with no help.  She and the nursing assistant then put a towel on the floor for me to stand over and they just throw a pad on the bed without changing the bedding.  They then removed my gown and I was standing their naked and the door was standing wide open.  I told the nurse several times to shut the door and how uncomfortable I was and she only said that there was no one out there in the hall.  Anyway,  the next day I had the wonderful day nurse again and they removed the catheter and I had to get up and start walking which I did without even being told.  But I had a problem urinating, not because there was anything wrong.  I couldn't relax enough with the belly pain from the surgery.  After the day nurse, left an intern came and told me they were going to have to recatheterize if I didn't start doing a greater volume on my own.  I told her that there was no way they were going to do that again and that they needed to up my fluids.  She fought with me about this about 3 times and she was more concerned with was the resident would say the next day than she was of my well being.  After they upped my fluids I didn't have any problems.  I was told to call them every time I went so they could measure it.  Then on Thursday I was released.  Today is Friday and I am doing all of the protein drinks and fluids like I am suppose to and getting up and walking as suggested to make sure I don't get a blood clot.  I weighed this morning and it said 251.5 lbs which would mean I have lost about 10 pounds in 4 days.
