Constipation

Sep 28, 2014

OK survived first week back and usual office drama.  Started eating some regular food in small quantities. Now constipated!  Did a suppository this morning, it helped create two movements but still not sure all is good.  Stayed on liquid protein until tonight, ate some refried beans and cheese.  Debating on taking ducolax but leaning towards to make sure I do not have a blockage higher up in colon.  I guess the worse that can happen is many trips to bathroom.  No pain, no fever just fill bloated.  Also developing a cough probably allergies.  Tired and feeling sleepy but cannot sleep.  Not the best of weekends to be sure! Ugh and work tomorrow!

Start back to work tomorrow

Sep 21, 2014

Dreading going back to work tomorrow due to the drama and stress in office.  It has been so nice healing quietly from surgery not having to work about anything but me.  Luckily I walk back in the first three days will be our annual training so biggest issue will be trying to stay awake at my usual nap times in the morning and afternoon.  I expect to be exhausted tomorrow night.  All is planned for the week as to what I will take for snack and lunch so I am good to go there.  Made the mistake of trying to find a pair of boots today, grrrr calves still way too big to fit in them so still on my lose more weight wish list.  Did find a few tops to wear that just barely fit so should be ok for next six months getting  into them.  I wish I had lost more weight before going back but oh well most weight was lost before surgery.  Maybe once I get moving full time it will drop off more, I still do not have much energy three weeks out!

Two week post op today

Sep 12, 2014

Weight 232 fully dressed without shoes, lol. Surgeon very happy!  5 out of 7 incisions healed, two still hard and sore but not infected.  Have one more week before going back to work, very nervous about going back, so much stress!  The good news is pureed foods ok.  Refried beans with a dusting of low fat cheese never tasted soooo delicious.  1/4 c at a time.  The cottage cheese with a very small amount of sugar free strawberry jelly, awesome.  Those two things may get me through, lol.  I tried another low fat yogurt, grrr less than thirty minutes I went running to bathroom, not sure why but won't do that again.  Now I guess things will be hit or miss.  I do miss my coffee in the morning but will move to decaf hot tea, later after pouch completely healed I will try coffee.

So to sum up I feel better than two weeks ago, can't imagine how I will feel a month from now.  Got into old jeans haven't worn for four year, very comfortable not wedged in!

Tens days post op

Sep 09, 2014

I am ten days post op.  Feeling pretty good, not ready to go back to work, hoping for another week.  Walking, sipping and taking in protein.  Today I was so frustrated though, I ate a stick of low fat cheese, nibbling on it like a rabbit, lol.  It was wonderful and later put a little shredded low fat cheese in my cream of wheat but got a little dumping with the racing heart for about thirty minutes.  I am soooo ready for more  food besides assorted protein drinks and popsicles.  Realized today that I have not been good about vitamins and tracking meals/liquids.  Gotta get on that to stay on track since work is just around the corner again. Going up and down stairs at my apartment is still rough but getting better.  I bought a scale and will hopefully calibrate it to what my surgeon's scale says.  Trying not to obsess over numbers, just focus on liquid and protein and moving.

Drain away!

Sep 05, 2014

Drain is out, yippie!  I thought it would hurt but nope so easy.  Down to 235.8 in a week.  Go again next week for post op and vascular check up.  I am pleased and so was Dr. Henke.

Six days out

Sep 03, 2014

Hard to believe a week ago I was working from home taking my laxative and clear liquids for my pre op. Today, I have patio door open with the breeze blowing in and feeling pretty good.  No fever, some belly and left side pain but OK.  Tried instant cream of wheat but stopped too chunky and did not want to take a chance so switched to Carb Master Vanilla Yogurt.  Ate the whole thing over a period of time.  Took my last stomach "blood thinner" injection.  Still have not heard from company regarding B12 nasal spray. GRRR.

Buddy my Chihuahua comes home today.  I am a bit nervous and hope I can take care of him.  Last night did not sleep well, first time since surgery, not sure why.

Four days out

Sep 01, 2014

OK, four days post op.  Last night was worse, not sure why.  Felt like I had huge bubble in my stomach left me uncomfortable.  Shoulder pain increased down into left upper arm.  Drain is still putting out huge amounts but maybe that is normal, I don't know.

I am sipping and walking but still tired.  Stomach injections have been a piece of cake, no pain and not scared to give them anymore.  My dog comes home from kennel on Wednesday, not sure if I will be able to walk him for very long but at least lots of exercise going up and down my stairs, oh joy!  Took my first shower yesterday, it was heavenly, no issues there.  Now can sleep a while on both sides right side easier than left but it is a nice transition as I am not a back sleeper.

Met Dr Jeffrey Henke

Aug 19, 2014

Today was my preop visit and I met Dr. Henke.  I was surprised at how much he was similar to Dr Kuhn.  He was soft spoken, gentle, straightforward and professional but smiled a lot.  It was an awkward meeting for me because I told him of course that he is not Dr. Kuhn and I just did not know him but soon my apprehension went away.  We talked about the surgery and he answered all of my questions.  I found out that I had lost 12 lbs and my liver was already shrunken to normal size for the surgery.  He was very please, but I also learned I did not need to start preop diet until Aug 21st, lol.  I was glad I got an early start on it anyway.  I went to Medical City for the pre admission and received the usual good care.  Ultrasound showed my gallbladder at this time to be fine.

I am so relieved so maybe tonight I will finally get some needed rest!  Thank you Dr. Kuhn for picking a great partner in Dr. Henke.  RIP dear sir!

Sanity has returned!

Aug 16, 2014

OK, sanity finally returned to me as the day went on.   Yes, I am still upset about the death of my surgeon, that has not changed.  He was such a good, decent, reputable man and surgeon that was why I researched so hard to find him.  My heart goes out to his family and staff.  It must be very devastating for them.  I cannot imagine!  Their lives have been turned upside down and will never be the same.  I feel ashamed of how I overreacted on some levels.  As all of us know whenever you have to have surgery of any kind it is so imperative to have a surgeon that you trust as this is no joking matter, people have died from weightloss surgeries before for a variety of reasons.  My gut reaction was I do not want to be one of those who dies.  I am putting on my big girl panties and going to meet with his partner as planned and begin my trust journey with him.  I am sure my doc trained him well and he had better be watching from heaven when I have my surgery!!!!
