Moved to Arkansas
May 18, 2009
I moved to Arkansas in November of 2008. My insurance denied my surgery after several appeals because it wasn't a part of my health coverage not because it wasn't medically necessary. I was going to do self pay but in CO springs they wouldn't do self pay and in Denver it was going to be over 52,000 dollars. I had given up on having the surgery and then I gained 30 more lbs and my fibromyalgia, arthritis and other ailments just got worse. I looked into surgeons in Arkansas and found one in Little Rock about 3 hours from where I live in Mena, AR. The surgery is only going to cost about $16,000 for the open RNY. I need the open because I have sleep apnea and this doctors requires the open. Anyway, I applied for a CARE-CREDIT health card and got approved for $15,000 immediately! So that almost covers it. Other than blood work and other misc expenses I wont h ave to put out too much of my own money right away.I'm going through all the steps that Dr. Baker requires and hopefully I'll be getting my surgery soon!
