Graduation DAY

Jul 05, 2011

It has been 32 years since I graduated High School and last night I accomplished... something I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever do. I became a college graduate. I got my Associate of Applied Science of Electronic Media Production Degree.

I am now going to go on to get my bachelors degree in nutrition so I can become a registered dietitian so I can work with weight loss surgery patients so I can pay it forward for all the people that helped my get to where I am today.

No longer obese

Dec 06, 2008

Since I have changed my weight lifting routine I haven’t got on the scale’s much for the last few months. When I have weighed it has just changed slightly do to adding muscle mass and loosing inches. The other day my wife asked me if I had weighed lately. She said it looked like I had lost more weight so I pulled out the scale and to my surprise I have dropped 10 pounds from the last time I have weighed. That is now a grand total from surgery date of 330 pounds I have lost. Even better I decided to check my BMI and it is now down to 29 and that drops me into the overweight category instead of obese range. I probably haven’t been this weight or in the overweight category since I was in Junior High School. I am now 36 pounds below the goal weight my doctor set for me, and I am 15 pounds away from the new personal goal of 199 pounds.

Home from the hospital

Dec 01, 2008

I made it back home just in time for thanksgiving dinner. Since I still dump on turkey we are having ham. Even after two years I still dump on turkey & pork chops. Anyway so far so good on the heart medication it seem to be working but to be on the safe side they sent me home with a event heart monitor just in case my heart starts it hop skip and jumping routine, we can capture it. I walked about a mile yesterday about 100 laps around the nurses station with no problems. My mouth and ribs are still sore but I have a few pain pills left over from my skin removal surgery, so if Tylenol dose not help I may take a pain pill.

Back in the hospital again

Nov 26, 2008

Well here I sit in ICU again (thank goodness for wifi) my heart is doing its tricks again. I suffer from an irregular heart beat and my heart throws PVC’s every few beats. I am on medication to keep it under control but Sunday night I found out the hard way it isn’t working so well anymore. I got out of bed to go to the kitchen to get a bottle of water the next thing I know I am face down on the floor in a pool of blood and my two front teeth are laying in the pool of blood. My nose is bleeding and both of my lips are split open. I managed to get up and get to the car and my wife drives me to the hospital. Once they get me in the ER and get me hooked up to the heart monitor it shows my heart rate was erratic and my blood pressure was very low. By now I am starting to realize that more than my face is hurting. My little finger on my left hand is hurting and my left side in the rib area is sore. Turns out I broke my finger and bruised my ribs besides busting my face along with a black eye. I look like a hockey player that lost to many fights. On Monday my heart doctor came in and told me the medication I was on wasn’t working like it should anymore (yeah no shi@)so he changed the dosage of my atenolol, dropped my coreg, kept my lisnopril the same and started me on a new drug called maxitil. Now they are keeping me here until tomorrow to see if the meds are working, if they work I can go home. Guess I should start singing the song all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. The only good part of it all is I am back at the hospital where I had my RNY done, St. John’s Hospital. The nursing staff in this hospital is simply the best. I have been in the other hospitals here in Springfield and without a shadow of a doubt St. John’s staff is the best of them all. You can tell the doctors and nurses truly care about their patients and are not doing a job just for the money.

Back to school

Oct 23, 2008

Well after giving it a great deal of thought I have decided to give college a try. When I was in High School I was involved in the audio video club and we did things like recording sporting events and we had a radio station I helped operate.  So now I am enrolled in Ozark Community College and am going to earn my associates degree in Electronics Media Production in hopes I will get a job in one of the local TV or radio stations in the production department. So far school is going well, I have to take some math and reading classes to get back up to speed on things since it has been almost 30 years since I have been in school.  It is a 2 year program and luckily for me I got federal grants to pay for everything
