Long year

Dec 22, 2012

After I had my revision I had a perforated bowel which ended up being a huge deal. However, it's now a year later, 135 lbs gone, and I'm doing fine. If you want details, message me. I am really enjoying my life now and am amazed as I shop for the holidays that I have so much more stamina than I did before the revision. I guess I wasn't totally aware how little I was able to do before.

I have started a book club and have taken some courses in advanced knitting which is my favorite thing to do these days. I'm grateful for my wonderful partner who made this last year worth while and for my surgeon who has always been there for me and saved my life. As we go into the new year I go in with a new life!

Revision

Nov 11, 2012

In July '11 my partner and I had a civil union after 25 years together and when I saw the pictures I realized I looked far worse than I was aware of and I contacted my doc about a revision to RNY which is what Medicare would pay for. I had the surgery in October and had lots of complications but now am doing fine. It's a year later and I've lost over 130 lbs and am the smallest I have been in 30+ years. Despite the problems I'm now glad I did this. I'm certainly willing to talk about the complications but it's too much for tonight.

Hello, I have had a hectic summer traveling. The good thing is I didn't gain weight. The bad thing is I didn't lose either. The band lets me start again. I also wasn't very hungry while traveling and I did get in my water and protein. it was the other stuff since I was in Germany and Austria and you know what that kind of food is like. I need to learn to make better traveling choices since I will be traveling more this fall--but shorter trips.

Well I got the message I hadn't updated in 90 days so here I am. Kind of stuck on weight loss. Most days I do great, about once a week I eat something I shouldn't and so I go up and down. I have stepped up my exercise and tightened up my choices so it should start to move soon. I did lose really fast in the beginning and now I am balancing.

I am so ready for the weather to be just a bit warmer. I don't really like hot, but jackets at the end of May is crazy, even for here. I'm enjoying the Illinois board a lot. We post almost daily and between support group and the folks who live in Chicago and get together I feel like we have a real family here.

I think the picture got squashed when I put it up as an avatar. The one in the photo looks better. I have lost 75 lbs and even though I have a ton more to lose, I can see the difference.

Hit 71!

Mar 01, 2008

I hit 71 lbs today! I got on the scale thinking a certain number and there it was! Also I had real restriction today, a PB and a little sliming and I was happy because I haven't felt much restriction at all. Now I know it's going to work! I was afraid I was just dieting--which is crazy because I've never lost this kind of weight by dieting so the band is working even when I don't think it is. Of course I want to be at goal now, another ridiculous thought. I'll get there when I get there and it will be the right time. I did the band to not have a saggy a skin problem but with 250+ lbs to lose, who am I kidding?

Snowed In

Feb 06, 2008

Well, we are supposed to get 13-15 in of snow today and we are well on the way. I had a fill yesterday, another 1.5 which makes  9ccs in a 10cc band. Today I have been kind of hungry all day, but drinking water instead of overeating. I think the hunger may be head hunger and also a certain amount of boredom or just unstructured time. It is so unusual to be home from work all day in the middle of the week. I have things to get done at work, but it's way to dangerous to try to get there. All the stores and restaurants are closed, not to mention banks, schools, churches, clinics and even garbage pickup.

As to weight loss, I am stuck at 60 lbs since last month. I know I need to exercise more, but my eating has been excellent. I was able to move more while I was on the cruise last week. So I am going to push the exercise more and kick myself into gear.

We will be starting the Rockford support group next week. It will be great to meet the local WLS folks!

After Christmas

Dec 29, 2007

Well the office party was fun and I was very comfortable with the vegetarian lasagna. I just didn't eat the noodles! The filling was delicious. We've gone out to dinner a few times now. Tonight we atte in a place that serves tapas. These are appetizer size portions, each priced individually. For us that saves money because we only order one each. My partner had a crab stuffed portobello and I had tuna tartar. Both were fabulous, plenty to eat for us. then we went to Barnes and Noble to start spending our gift cards. It feels like our old life but without feeling stuffed. Very nice. We are going to the Caribbean with an Olivia cruise the end of January. I want to set a goal, but of course my goal would be like 15 more pounds which I know is unrealistic. I don't quite get the mini-goal process yet; after a few more months maybe I'll have a better guess how to do it.

December 15

Dec 15, 2007

I'm at my computer watching the snow come down like the Christmas globe in my living room. What I really like is that it is not sticking to the streets! Our work dinner party is tonight and I've been looking forward to getting dressed up instead of dreading it. I am so glad I had the lapband surgery in October! I heard about it in detail last November and was so anxious to get it done, but my insurance company had other ideas. The hoops were finally manageable and both my partner and I had the surgery (three weeks apart).
