Hi--I'm almost 2 weeks post-op and since you asked...I think the best thing you can take to the hospital with you is a positive attitude. The attitude that you can and will do this and be successfull, you will get up and walk, you will heal well and without complication, I believe attitude makes all the difference. I would also say that you need to remember you're in charge, you're the one who's paying for all of this. If you are in distress and the nurses don't answer the call light, call your Dr's office and have him paged. In preparation for surgery, I got up and moved more. Didn't do any hikes, but got up and took some strolls and generally moved about. The day after surgery was hell for me, I wanted it reversed, so be prepared that may happen to you and remember, this too shall pass. I was very tired and needed naps, but they gave me juice and I found when I got home the even low cal juice will do that to me and so I have to avoid anything sweet. Be encouraged, I did recover well and without complication (no voimiting due to food at all) and am returning to work 2 weeks post op feeling very fine. I eat a protein focused diet, with way smaller portions filling me up.

I will be sharing this most memorable day on the 18th as we both begin our lives anew. I wish you the best of luck and the speediest recovery ever. Take care (follow the doctor's orders) and I will contact you once we are home! Carolyne

I think it is great that we will be having this done at the same time just on the opposite ends of the country. God speed in healing and recovery.
