2 weeks post op!

Sep 25, 2017

I have made it through surgery and the first two weeks! Surgery was on 9/11 at UNC. I got pretty anxious while waiting (about 3 hours wait to get taken back). My fiance and parents were with me for support. After surgery I sort of remember waking up in a hallway and being in pain. Someone gave me something for pain and after that I was taken to my room where I slept for a very long time. I woke up around 9pm and my fiance and mom were spending the night with me. I ended up not getting discharged until Thursday afternoon because I was not oxengenating my blood. While at the hopsital I tolerated the liquids well and was able to get up and move around some. I had no idea it would feel the way it did! I felt like a baby learning to walk! I was very weak and short of breath but now I am moving around fine. The first week at home I have stuck to my shakes and water and ice. Starting week 2 I started having some SF popsicles and jello. I had some pretty bad pain where the incisions are but it has slowly but surely got better.  Today I'm going to start my exercise routine.  I am going to start on the recumbent bike to try not to agitate the abdominal incisions. Today we can also start introducing purreed foods.  I already have a few soups I can puree and eat. I need to order some unflavored protein to mix in with soups and puddings etc.

I waited until Friday 9/22 to weigh in and since pre-op I have lost 32.7 pounds! Woah! I was not expecting that much especially since I haven't begun to formally exercise. I feel better already! Want to get more healed so I can start doing some gentle yoga and get back in the pool to work on my back.
