Hi! My name is Rebecca. I am 35 years old and mother of 3 beautiful children. I’ve been married to my husband for 16 years. I have 3 furbabies ( kitties) , some fin-babies and a couple hamsters running around here somewhere too.
I’ve been struggling with my weight most all of my life. I have always been the “chunky” girl. or the “curvy” one. When I got pregnant with my first child , I gained 100 lbs. I was depressed about the weight but happy about my baby. Over the years and 2 more children I had gained more and more and more weight.
Five years ago I woke up from a fog and found that I had no idea who I was looking at in the mirror anymore. I weighed 350 lbs at that time. I started researching gastric by-pass surgery and put myself on every diet known to man in an effort to right the years of yo-yo dieting and half hearted efforts to loose weight.
During the process of being evaluated for gastric bypass surgery , my doctor felt a lump on my thyroid. I was terrified. I ate my way through another 60 lbs of depression and worry. Fast forward 1 year , Thyroid had to be removed ,it was a multi-nodular goiter that was growing and started to cause breathing issues.
That was August 2007. I started back on the journey to gastric bypass .. got all the way to the end of that road only to have my insurance tell me .. “you must go to a Center of Excellence in order for the proceedure to be covered”.. I was devistated. I had a surgery date for January 2008 all set , my insurance had covered all my doctor visits and preliminary work up.. only to say .. No *deep sigh* …
So , I jumped right back on the wagon and changed doctors , one that can do surgery at the hospital covered by my insurance. I had my first consultation in Feb.. not good news , he wantedme to loose 20 lbs and be re-evaluated March 21st. I made it! On the day of my surgery I weighed in at 375. My RNY was done on April 17th, 2008.I intend to blog at least once a week with what is going on along my journey.I’m a pretty open person. If you have any questions feel free to contact me
