Last year at my 41st birthday, I was asked by some of my family members, what I wanted to accomplish over the next year before my birthday. I had already heard about the Lap Band and done a little research over the Internet. I told them that I wanted to have the surgery before my next birthday. I checked into it more and more and finally went to an orientation that was offered in mid December of 07. I found out how much it would cost and what it would require of me. I was discouraged by the cost and found out that at this point my insurance would not cover anything. I started to look on line for other means to raise the money needed to finance my surgery. I was once again discouraged at the overall cost I was looking at and then the finance cost involved. I let things sit for a few months and then tried to go at it again. My wife and I prayed and prayed for a means to help this go through. In Late June, we were blessed with a means to take care of my surgery. By the 5th of July, the total amount needed was in our account. Once I contacted the Doctor's office and told them, everything came together very quickly. My first intake visit was July 10th with the Dr. Fox. I quickly got the rest of my pre testing done and then had surgery on the 7th of August. I was 389lbs on my first office visit. I know I had been closer to 400lbs before i made the decision to go in. The day of the surgery, I weighed in at 367lbs. As of today September 3rd, I am at 340lbs 4 weeks post op and 16 days before my next birthday! I am lighter now then I have been on over 17yrs!
I have been big all my life starting about my junior year in high school. I have been very luck to have accomplished all that I have to this point in my life. Just over the last 4 yrs or so being the heaviest I've ever been. I tried all the fad diets, the TV diets and some others that people made up. Nothing was permanent and always added more weight in the long run. I am very blessed that other then my weight, I have been very healthy. No pre diabetes and only over the last year my blood pressure was starting to go up.
I have been able to do more things already at this point then ever and enjoy them. I enjoy walking and riding my bike, playing with my children and just moving and getting around so much better. I will keep you up on the latest as things progress.
