Fairfield Medical Center

"For insurance reasons, I did not have my RNY surgery at this hospital. However, I was admitted by my surgeon to this hospital a few weeks after surgery when I developed a wound infection. I first went in to the emergency room...very uncomfortable, but the staff was nice and accomodating. When I was admitted to my room, the staff at the hospital were very nice..they allowed me to rest as much as they could, and they were very responsive. The staff responded to alarms from my IV or me ringing the bell within a minute or two."

"While most people were cordial, there were a couple of nurses who were less than helpful. A few times during my stay the alarms would go off on my IV and, even though my room was directly across from the nurses station, it would take quite a while before anyone would come in and take care of the alarm...something that can be very annoying, especially when you're trying to rest after surgery. Also, on the day I was scheduled to leave, the nurse seemed put out by my questions about when I would be released and my request to contact my surgeon to find out when he would be in to release me. "

Stephan R. Myers

"I dealt with different people at Fresh Start. Dr. Myers did the surgery as well as one pre-op and one post-op visit. All other pre and post op visits were handled by Dr. Timothy Custer, who worked out of the Lancaster Hospital at the time.rnBoth Drs. Custer and Myers were very easy to talk to and easy to ask questions of...they were both very knowledgable and took the time to answer and explain any questions that I had. rnI'm very happy to date with the Fresh Start Program. They have a very comprehensive program that includes both pre-surgical screening and care as well as post-operative care. This includes having dieticians and trainers on staff to help with nutritional guidance as well as exercise.rnThe only thing that I wish they would have done differently would have been to more thoroughly explain the risks of the surgery at the initial seminar rather than just a couple of weeks prior to the surgery. It would not have changed my mind, and I was well aware of most of the risks. However, when the risks were explained, they were explained in great detail and I had ample opportunity to ask questions concerning the risks and have everything explained to me."
