first fill

Mar 15, 2009

I had my first fill on my 41st birthday...I had plateaued at my current weight for over a month so was happy to get in to see my doctor who was very happy with my progress...since surgery I had lost 55 lbs which was his goal for me for the first year, not the first 4 months.  Regardless, I got 4cc put in my band but still don't feel much restriction.  I have been working out 3-5 times/week and know that my body is still changing and losing inches despite not losing pounds which is still a good feeling.  I'm planning on running/walking a 5k race in May and am excited about it!

Going on 3 months post op

Jan 30, 2009

I'm having trouble breaking the 65 lb mark but have also struggled with fluid intake just due to schedule at work and that's not going to get better.  I'm going to have to go back to some 12 hour shifts in March and am nervous about how that's going to affect my weight loss but I have  a month to figure it out.  Also trying to get back into the dating world...didn't have the energy for it before but am curious about what is out there now

It's apparent that the weight loss itself is slowing down but I can tell my body is still changing.  It's probably also good that I work with a lot of very supportive people who are constantly telling me how great I look...almost to to the point of being annoying but I can't stop that I suppose.  I've started working out regularly and am up to an hour...a combo of elliptical, treadmill, and bike.  On friday, I have my fitness eval at the gym so I'm curious to see what I can do that will help tone some of the flabby areas.  The pain at the port site is decreasing the more I work out...it seems to work well to go to the gym 2 days and then take one off to recover, then start all over.  What a trip this has been!  Thank God for Clearance Racks!

Well, things are going well.  I'm experiencing a little day to day fluctuation in my weight and probably shouldn't be weighing myself daily but am now officially down 50 lbs since August (35 since surgery in Nov.).  I get a lot of comments from people at work and church and can't wait to see my family in January to see if they can tell a difference since Thanksgiving.  The weather has been miserable but it gets me outside once a day (if not twice) to use the snowblower and clear the driveway and sidewalks (which is good for the core muscles)!  I'm down from size 28 jeans to 22 and down to 20 in some dress pants.  It's amazing to be able to move quickly up 2 flights of stairs and not feel like I need a rest! I'm still a little chicken about trying new foods but need to because I'm getting bored with what I eat...need to spice it up a little.  I'm also struggling with constipation but I think that's normal.  Holiday Blessings to All!

Follow up appointment

Dec 11, 2008

Had my 2nd follow up appointment today and thankfully, my Dr. was very pleased.  I'm averaging about 4 lbs loss each week so I think what he said was that I'm "exceeding expectations."  So, no fill for my band this time.  I weigh myself daily so when I get to only 1-2 lbs per week, I'll go back.  The great news is that I can stop the chewable vitamins and go back to my pre-surgery routine with those!

How do you find time to exercise between working full time and planning meals and just plain being exhausted?  That's probably my biggest struggle since going back to work.  I did go and check out a couple of health clubs last week...do I go with the cheap one that I drive by every night on my way home from work that is pretty old and the class times aren't the most convenient or do I drive past home another 2 miles to the new, pricier place with yoga and pilates classes that are more convenient for me?  On a positive note, I went in and had my blood pressure checked and it's 113/72 on a half of a Diovan 160/HCTZ 25.  I'm hoping to be able to stop taking it soon.  It's good to be back to work but I have a lot to catch up on as well as trying to get ready for Christmas.

Back to Work

Dec 02, 2008

I was very fortunate to be able to take 4 weeks off from work to recover and start to learn new habits.  I went back to work yesterday (I'm a clinical nurse educator) and had a pretty good day although I was there for almost 10 hours.  I was wiped out after that  and watching my niece's basketball game.  The nice part is that I'm wearing pants 2-3 sizes smaller than when I left Oct. 31 (although most of them were starting to get too big).  I got a lot of compliments and well wishes so that felt good.  I'm now down 41 lbs since August and 23 since surgery.  I go in next week and hopefully will get my first fill as I still feel quite hungry as soon as I drink anything after the 1 hour of no fluids after meals.  We'll see!

Post op week 3

Nov 23, 2008

OK...a little slower progress as far as weight loss this week...only 2 pounds but better than nothing.  Not to make excuses but does having the monthly cycle have anything to do with it?  I've been walking some but not enough.  Next week I'll be joining a gym and am looking forward to that.  Food-wise, doing well and getting other functions closer to normal with the help of colace.  I'm looking forward to going back to work next week.

I think the last week has gone well, tranisitioning from full liquids to some more soft/ground/pureed foods.  I've eaten things like toast, banana, ground chicken and beef, soft veggies, rice and fish.  I even went to Applebees, ordered the cajun tilapia (wt watchers approved).  they wouldn't just bring me a half serving so I asked for a box to come with the meal, and took home about 2/3 of the meat and half the veggies and rice.  I didn't eat the corn and bean salsa (next time would order without that).  I'm down 5 lbs since last tuesday so I'm happy that the weight is coming off at a good pace but not too slow.

Had my first appt with the dietician and surgeon after surgery today...doing well from both perspectives except that I have to remember to eat slowly.  I've lost 9 lbs since surgery (funny what not eating does), 18 since my first consultation with the surgeon, and 27 since my initial consultation with my primary care provider.  I guess I'll have to change my lucky number to 9!  I'll go back in for my next visit a month from today and hopefully will be ready for a fill.  I've not taken my blood pressure med since surgery, bought one of those little wrist blood pressure monitors and it seems to be hanging 118-125/75-81 so I'm happy with that.  I went grocery shopping after my appointments as I had donated most of the stuff in my cupboards to various food collection organizations since making this decision.  Is there a good brand of baked tortilla chips out there?
