I come from a very long family history of judgemental people. Even though I was not overweight while I was growing up, I was always considered the fat one in my family, therefore putting my self esteem down on the floor. Once I started College my eating habits changed drastically (fast foods all the time) and my weight started going up and up. I started College at 145lbs and left weighing over 200lbs.
When I met my now husband, I was weighing about 180lbs, but then when I got pregnant with my daughter I gained 65 lbs. That weight never went away. I started AGAIN trying different diet systems, products and exercises. Weight would come off but it would come back very quickly. It was a yo-yo situation for me.
After I had my son my weight kept gradually and slowly going up, until I reached 265lbs. My health was suffering, my knees were killing me and the worst part of it all was when my little 5 year old told me she didn't want to be fat like Mommy. I know she didn't mean to hurt my feelings, but it did and it gave me a big slap in the face. That was the moment I realized I needed to do something with my life.
I started going online searching for other options and I came across Gastric Bypass Surgery. I started reading a lot about it and finding information about the Doctor who would be doing my surgery if I decided to do it. I went to an informational seminar at the Hospital and when I saw the woman speaker, she inspired me so much (she is also a patient). I decided then that this was the best thing for me.
I started the whole process of testing and interviews, and meeting with the personnel of the WMC was a blessing. I am so happy to have met Dr James Ku and have him as my surgeon. He has changed my life completely. Lisa, our nutritionist, is the sweetest person I've ever met in my life and she has filled my head with knowledge and I have changed the way I eat drastically and i am happy about it.
I am 4 months post op right now (04/18/07) and I have lost 64.4lbs. I am so happy about it, I look good, I feel great and my family thinks I look gorgeous. It's a new me and I am loving it!!!
