Slowly getting there...

Aug 10, 2010

No more Nexium (Barrett's Eso). No more HCTZ (HBP). No more Simvastatin (chol)! I am one only one medicine for my thyroid!

After being so dehydrated that I needed hospitalization, I am finally on the full liquids phase that my doctor gave me (docs all differ on stages ya know). Yesterday I was able to get down at least 48 ounces of water (his minimum and considering my bowels are still slow, more bloating is not needed right now). Today I got all of my early post-op protein requirements done by lunch! So now I should be able to edge closer to his big goal on protein. I also had 1/2 SM Egg Custard for late breakfast. For lunch I had some cottage cheese! Boy did that taste good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I am just concentrating on getting in some more fluids. I may toss down some leftover RTD shakes just to boost my protein while keeping some in me throughout the day. I probably will not eat any food food today. This is day one after all. As long as I can get my water and protein in (so far, easy) then everything else is a treat.

The only downside is that I have some wound leakage. I have gone through two shirts and two shorts. Thankfully my wife is a nurse. She checked the opacity, scent, and color. It is not "some big word she uses". I guess in laymen's terms she meant it is not infection. She called my doc since that was one of his "Reasons to Call". The nurse agreed with Lisa. I am being seen for my follow up on Thursday so that's fine either way unless anything changes. So now I am half naked with gauze on me lol. After all, I do not have a large wardrobe.

(TMI ALERT) My bowels are still extremely SLOW. I am lucky if I "fart" once a day. Needless to say I am BLOATED. I burp some so that helps. I will ask the doc about this Thursday.

Side note....the IV weight gain is quickly coming off. It just sucks that all of the hard work it took for me to get down to 219 or whatever it was....was moot. I will be glad to be rid of the bloated gut. It was nice having a flat gut two weeks ago.
